Malaysia Itineraries
Overview

Just a stone’s throw away from Singapore, Malaysia boasts everything that might tempt you to Southeast Asia, from vibrant modern cities to traditional merchant ports and remote villages in pristine rainforest landscapes. Its mix of peoples and influences have created a diverse, welcoming society with a great variety of experiences on offer from the excitement of its buzzing cities, to lush highlands, jungle filled landscapes and swathes of white sandy beaches. Malaysia is a vibrant and interesting fusion of Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures and customs. Its love of western-style industrialisation is abundantly clear in its big cities, yet the northern coastline offers some of the most tranquil beaches on earth, and in the dense jungle vegetation and the unspoilt rainforests of Borneo you can experience the glorious indigenous wildlife and more tribal side of the country.
The capital city of Kuala Lumpur is the throbbing nerve centre of the country, with a glittering lattice of office towers, high-rise apartments and mega-malls, in which the twin spires of the Petronas Towers soar above. Just over an hour’s drive south of Kuala Lumpur, Malacca is an easy weekend getaway. Take yourself a decade or two back in time, stroll the streets and sample local fare. This small city was one the crossroads for sea trades and therefore developed rapidly, with much of its people a mix of sea farers from Europe. The Cameron Highland Tea Station is also a favoured retreat for city-dwellers to take in fresh air while taking the kids on an educational trip. Residing on the East & West Coasts are luxury beach retreats retaining much of traditional Malay flavour in decoration and architecture, adding to the idyllic beach charm of these white sandy shores. The resort town of Langkawi is unbeatable for its luxury hotels and chic Malay-style boutique resorts. There is much to do: kayaking through the mangrove, delving into the rainforest with a veteran naturalist, a boat trip around the archipelago, a round of golf or lazing by an infinity pool and watching the ocean. For nature-lovers, Borneo is the ultimate destination, with the oldest rainforest in the world and home to a mindboggling species of flora and fauna.
The Luxe Voyager’s highlights for Malaysia include experiencing the brilliant wildlife in Borneo, watching beautiful Orang Utans from tree top walkways in one of our rainforest lodges. For diving aficionados, head to the Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort. In one of Malaysia’s best diving locations, there is the chance to spot Parrot fish, swarms of Barracudas, and turtles grazing. Take time to explore the Langkawi archipelago and its 99 beautiful islands and be sure to take a private boat trip to discover the more remote and uninhabited islands.
