Gibb’s Farm offers many different walks, depending upon your interests and desired activity level. Experience a real working farm as you explore our organic 10-acre fruit and vegetable gardens and 30-acre coffee fields.
This leisurely two-hour walk around our neighboring village of Tloma provides a personal look at Tanzanian village life.

Through Gibb’s Farm’s artists-in-residence program, East African artists stay at the farm and create commissioned artwork. Meet some of East Africa’s most talented artists, learn about their influences and inspiration and watch them create their artwork, which is available for purchase.
Ngorongoro Crater boasts more than 30,000 animals, in and around the crater, including lion, hippo, hyena, wildebeest, zebra, African buffalo and more. You will soon see why Ngorongoro Crater is considered to be among the world’s great wonders!.
Outing to Tloma, a nearby village, where you have the opportunity to meet a local family and learn about Iraqw culture and traditional ways of life. Discover the age-old process of making pots, try your hand at pounding grain and taste the local brew.
Visitors can donate a school desk, engraved with their own special message and personally deliver it to the school whilst staying at Gibb’s Farm. The material is purchased locally and our carpenters expertly build the desks to specifications after which they carefully engrave the guest’s message by hand. Guests are welcome to join our carpenters for an afternoon in the workshop and assist with the crafting of the desks.

Guided by a Gibb’s Farm naturalist and rangers from Ngorongoro Conservation Area, this exciting six to seven hour wilderness walk takes you to awe-inspiring, untouched forests where you will encounter unique plant life, animals and rare birds. Starting at Gibb’s Farm, you hike to the Ngorongoro Forest and ascend the slopes to the crater rim with magnificent views of the crater floor below.
On this two-hour hike through the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will discover a magnificent waterfall and incredible “elephant caves” created by elephants digging up the earth to ingest the vitamin-rich soil. You may see buffalo, bushbuck, waterbuck and baboons, also attracted by the soil.
Indigenous Maasai healers lead you through the Ngorongoro Forest, where over 20 medicinal plants commonly used in Tanzania to treat health problems are described.
After an early Breakfast, experience a guided drive to Lake Eyasi to meet a local Hadzabe tribe. Meet the family and learn about the culture and the traditional ways of living of the Hadzabe people. Hunt together with the warriors and taste the local brew.
Join in the laughter and banter as the chefs go about their daily ritual of harvesting fresh organic produce from our vegetable garden, to be enjoyed at lunch or dinner time.

Guest Cottages
Gibb’s Farm’s rustic charm and gracious accommodations provide an ideal sanctuary for a few day’s respite while on safari or for an extended vacation or honeymoon getaway. The 1929 farmhouse and five cottages comprised the original guesthouse in 1972. Today, 17 guest cottages—each featuring a unique theme and richly appointed with eucalyptus floors, hand-crafted furniture, two queen-size beds, indoor and outdoor showers, a fireplace and private verandah—provide an elegant home away from home, with all of the cozy comforts. A cottage with a common living area and two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms is available for families or couples traveling together.

Living Room
The main farmhouse’s cozy, inviting living room features many of the original architectural details from 80 years ago, such as the old wooden ceiling boards, beams and traditional red-polished floors. A large, open fireplace offers a welcome spot to relax in the early evening, to enjoy a glass of wine and good conversation.

Farmhouse
Originally built in 1929, the historic farmhouse has been lovingly refurbished and offers a welcome refuge after a long day’s adventures on safari. The main farmhouse features a charming living room, two dining rooms, outside verandahs, a gazebo and gift boutique. Relax in one of the nooks and crannies with a cup of tea, enjoy the original artwork or sip wine by one of the roaring fires to unwind. Just outside the farmhouse, experience tranquility as you recline on the spacious patio surrounded by lush, soothing gardens and sweeping views of the valley.

Zawadi Boutique
Bring a sense of joy and contentment home with you. The Zawadi Boutique offers a wonderful selection of unique East African books, artwork, carvings, textiles, decorative art, exotic jewelry and Gibb’s Farm’s special organic Arabica coffee.
The main facilities including a sitting room, reading room, dining room, bar and gift shop, are situated in the old farmhouse. The old-colonial farmhouse still has the character of a well cared-for private house with roaring fires and friendly service, and guests wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of flowers and breathtaking views. The fruit, vegetable and flower gardens now cover 10 acres and everything is grown organically using only natural fertiliser from the farm. The farm provides the milk, coffee, eggs and meat which are served to guests, and the meals are truly superb. In the shadow of the forest, there is a tree nursery where hundreds of young saplings are grown to encourage the use of native tree species in the local villages.
