An exquisite Atlas Mountain retreat only an hour away from Marrakech, the luxurious, boutique Kasbah Tamadot combines relaxation with adventure in a stylish, indulgent and authentic setting. Dramatically set in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and with stunning views towards Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in north Africa, and a steep lush river valley below, the Kasbah is a walled retreat with peaceful courtyards and landscaped gardens. The image of the hotel’s infinity pool is iconic with views across the valley below. It’s attentive staff come from the surrounding Berber villages, giving a wonderfully authentic experience.

Within the Kasbah’s walls, the 18 individually styled rooms, suites and tents, as well as the common areas, are decorated with an eclectic mix of Arabian, Indian and Far Eastern antiques and artefacts. These have been lovingly collected over time by the Kasbah’s former owner, a renowned interior designer and antiques dealer. Asmoun Lounge

In the Berber language, Asmoun means ‘a place to get together or meet’, and the lounge is a great place to enjoy the beauty of the valleys below. The Asmoun lounge is a souped-up Berber tent on the inside, with colourful textiles and rugs, and souk-sourced lanterns, and the less-traditional addition of a bar and a few stools. We think it’s a perfect spot to spend the afternoon soaking up the Moroccan sunshine. Or fancy a cocktail? Soak up the afternoon views with a pre-dinner tipple. Its terrace, naturally, comes with views of the Atlas’ most eye catching high-rises.

Aside from the indoor (heated) and outdoor pools, there’s a four-room spa replete with hammam and Watsu pools, a fully equipped gym, two tennis courts (floodlit), a billiards room, library and a kids’ club in the school holidays. Beyond the ramparts, High Atlas trekking, mule riding, golf, camel riding, quad biking, paragliding and guided excursions await.
