ACTIVITIES:
A relaxing and rewarding way to spend a few hours is a visit to Leeu Estates, a five-star getaway ensconced in 68 hectares (168 acres) of landscaped gardens, manicured vineyards and indigenous fynbos in the Franschhoek valley, and to take a guided tour of the gardens interspersed with artworks. The tours provide an opportunity to connect with art and nature in serene and meditative spaces with exceptional views.

Indaba – The Meeting Place at Leeu Estates is a state-of-the-art multipurpose event and meeting venue. The light-filled space, with its open roof trusses, tall windows, timber floors and natural finishes, perfectly complements the collection of art and sculptures by artists such as Deborah Bell and Stanislaw Trzebinski, among others. Indaba, which is 140 square metres (1 510 square feet) in size and has an elevator, is equipped with audio and video conferencing facilities, a 203.30-centimetre (80-inch) television screen and uncapped high-speed Wi-Fi. Indaba can accommodate up to 50 guests both inside and on the terrace overlooking the beautiful valley and mountain landscape. The well-appointed venue can host various events, from cocktails, high teas, private parties, exhibitions, product launches, press briefings and seminars, to business meetings and think tank sessions for up to 30 people. Indaba is situated at Leeu Estates, a 3km drive from Leeu House. Transport between our properties is available.

Leeu House is stylish luxury boutique hotel in South Africa’s Cape Winelands, with just twelve guest rooms. Located in the heart of the charming town of Franschhoek, the emphasis is on fine food and superb service. A traditional Cape Dutch farm building is the focal point of the hotel, with pretty gardens and artwork including two striking bronzes featuring Gandhi and Mandela on the front lawn. Dining is of course a real highlight here, as with much of this region of South Africa. Set in the vibrant epicentre of Franschhoek village, resident guests can enjoy leisurely meals in The Conservatory, or al fresco on the terrace. Breakfasts are highly rated and an all-day dining menu offers light meals with a focus on local produce from midday. Meals are accompanied by a selection of fine South African wines including the estate’s vintages. There are pretty gardens and a heated swimming pool where you can relax when not out exploring the town or nearby wine estates. Guests at Leeu House can also enjoy the facilities at nearby Leeu Estates – more dining options, a beautiful spa, gym facilities and the Mullineux & Leeu wine tasting room, all set amongst beautiful landscaped gardens with bronze sculptures.
There are twelve rooms, split into four categories – Classic, Deluxe, Deluxe with terrace and Grande Suite with terrace. Each room is luxuriously appointed, in a contemporary classic style, with neutral colours. All rooms are air-conditioned and have underfloor heating in the bathroom and come with high speed WiFi access, high definition flat screen television, iPad on request, electronic safe and Nespresso coffee machine. The four Classic rooms measure 35 m² and two have bathtubs and showers, whilst two have showers only. The two Deluxe rooms measure 43m², one located on the ground floor and one on the first floor with mountain views. The four Deluxe rooms with terraces measure 53m² and all have double or twin sofa beds that can accommodate two children. The two Grande Suites are the top room category here, each measuring 65m² with his and hers walk-in dressing areas, a double sofa bed which can sleep two children and one has a patio with outside seating.

Classic Room
An average size of 32m²/344ft², two of these four comfortable and spacious rooms have full bathrooms; the other two have large walk-in showers.


Deluxe Room
An average size of 43m²/462ft², one of these two spacious rooms is situated on the ground floor looking onto the manicured gardens, the other on the first floor with lovely mountain views.

Classic With Terrace
An average size of 53m²/570ft², there are four rooms with terraces, two of which enjoy views of the mountain from their outside balconies, and one of which has easy access to the pool. Two have double or twin sofa beds that can sleep two children.

Deluxe With Terrace
An average size of 65m²/699ft², one of these two rooms with terraces offers a double walk-in dressing room and offers easy access to the lounge and conservatory facilities, the other has a patio with outside seating. Each has a double sofa bed that can sleep two children.
Dining is of course a real highlight here, as with much of this region of South Africa. Executive chef Oliver Cattermole creates innovative dishes using the best in local organic and ethically farmed produce, served in the Conservatory or out on the terrace. Meals are accompanied by a selection of fine South African wines including the estate’s vintages. For more casual fare, head to the next door Tuk Tuk craft brewery for snacks and local brews, or further down the road to the sister property Le Quartier Francais to the renowned Tasting Room restaurant for more fine dining.

Pool
The pool has its own bar and terrace with views of mountain peaks; inside is a compact bar-lounge and restaurant.

Spa
Set among the vineyards, Leeu Spa is a wellness sanctuary that offers authentic massages and holistic treatments by expert therapists.

Gym
The spacious gym with its premium TechnoGym fitness equipment offers framed views of the majestic mountains.
