The only pure tuart forest in the world stands in the north of Your Margaret River Region, whilst the karri, the third tallest tree species in the world, stands in the south.  Next to the Indian Ocean, the boundless beauty and diversity of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park envelops the region on the western edge. The premium wine region and agricultural land give way to woodlands, jarrah and marri forests on the east. Scenic spots are plentiful and range from stunning seascapes to tranquil forest valleys. Contemplate the enormity of Sugarloaf Rock, Cape Naturaliste – a gigantic towering granite rock that emerges from the Indian Ocean from the lookout on the mainland. It is easy to be amazed and it is easy to experience it all as there are fantastic lookouts, walk trails, cycle paths and mountain bike trails with easy access.

Augusta And Cape Leeuwin

Craft Breweries And Artisan Distillers

Nearly 20 years ago that brewery was a lone trailblazer and now with nine breweries in Your Margaret River Region, craft beer is a real player in the Margaret River region. By contrast chocolate beers, ginger and chilli beer will give your tastebuds something new to think about. Brave inventive styles are introduced regularly and frequent the daily tasting list. Some also produce their own cider, there’s even a distillery.

Chocolate Olive Oil Produce Stores

Voted as Australia’s Best Gourmet Region by Gourmet Traveller Magazine the Margaret River Region has an abundance of produce stores, farm gates and artisan food producers.

Caves

The Margaret River Region is as spectacular underneath the ground as it is on top. Over 150 highly decorated limestone caves lay beneath the surface of the Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge. Formed approximately 1 million years ago, a number of these complex and fragile karst systems are open to the public. Go inside and be amazed by these massive labyrinths decorated intricately with limestone crystal formations. Cave tours range from completely easy ‘at your own pace’ self-guided tours, guided tours along boardwalks with great commentary, ‘off piste’ adventure hard-hat tours to extremely adventurous ‘abseil your way in’ expeditions. It is difficult to choose the best cave tour in the Margaret River Region. You can marvel at the reflections on Lake Cave’s permanent lake, be dwarfed in Jewel Cave’s enormous chambers and take it easy on the Mammoth Cave self- guided tour. At Yallingup’s Ngilgi Cave (pronounced ‘nilgi‘), you will learn the Aboriginal legend as you look up at limestone shawl formations– or delve deeper into the cave on an adventure tour.
