ACTIVITIES:
Get to know each elephant, with activities offering an all-encompassing experience into the world of the herd, including walking with them, observing their daily life as well as discussing conservation with local researchers.
Morning and afternoon game drives are offered in open safari vehicles. These drives showcase the abundance of wildlife in the varying habitats which range from open grasslands to secluded island sanctuaries and papyrus-fringed channels.
Season-dependent mokoro excursions offer a taste of the more conventional Okavango, however at Abu we offer mokoro with a difference – alongside elephants splashing through the water! The traditional dugout canoes are navigated by a skilled poler and offer guests a tranquil and romantic perspective of the region.
Walking in the bush with an experienced guide can be one of the most exciting ways of viewing game, as well as appreciating the smaller critters and plant life in and around the concession.
The ultimate immersion experience into the sensory world of the elephant can be experienced by sleeping out under the stars overlooking the elephant boma. Be lulled to sleep by the contented rumbling and low snores of the elephants below.
Some 380 birds reside in the area and the diversity of activities offered at Abu can lead to special sightings such as lesser jacana, pygmy goose, wattled crane, slaty egret, coppery-tailed coucal and even rosy-throated longclaw amongst others.

Set in a 500,000 acre private concession of the Okavango Delta, Abu Camp lies at the heart of a pristine wilderness and is surrounded by the open floodplains, island sanctuaries and papyrus-fringed channels that make this part of Botswana unique. The stars of the show, however, are the members of Abu’s resident elephant herd. Interact with these gentle giants as you walk or ride with them and then spend time feeding, bathing or even swimming with them. Elephants are reflected everywhere at the spectacularly stylish Abu Camp, from charming ornaments placed at the tubs to carved elephants on the dinner tabe, but there’s plenty of the real stuff out there too.
Get close to the area’s abundant wildlife on dawn or late afternoon game drives, a perfect way to maximise your photographic opportunities. A guided nature walk or silent mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) ride through the channels will bring the smaller delights of Africa to your attention. For guests under 17, there are the many delights of the Bush Buddy programme, which is overseen by a trained member of staff and includes age-appropriate activities, menus and gifts.
The accommodation is in six luxurious tented suites set beneath a shady canopy in a riverine forest glade. Each of the six en-suite suites has its own distinctive furnishings and fittings, many of them antique, imparting an air of opulence amid the bush setting. Each tent, too, has its own private elevated deck sculpted around one of the lofty sycamore figs or jackalberry trees, with unobstructed views over the lagoon.

Standard Twin Tent
Abu’s six spacious and luxurious custom-designed tents are raised on teak decking with ample outdoor seating areas overlooking the delta scenery. All the tents are stylishly and individually furnished with mahogany 4-poster or antique sleigh beds and carefully chosen artefacts and accents which exude African elegance. Each tent has an en suite bathroom complete with a copper or porcelain bathtub, flush toilet plus indoor and outdoor showers.
Most meals are enjoyed alfresco on the tiered teak decking that winds its way around the camp’s African ebony and sycamore fig trees, or under the canvas of the main tent. Bush picnic, sundowner drinks, snack baskets and personal surprises complete the decadent African safari experience.

Dining
A well-stocked bar provides drinks and cocktails for post-safari sundowners around a camp fire while most of the meals are taken al fresco on the deck. There is also a sleep out platform in the elephant’s boma – for the ultimate star bed experience.
Expect glamorous accents everywhere, from outdoor showers or copper bathtubs to personal plunge pools embedded in teak decks. The central areas are just as stylish, with a library, dining room, lounge area, gym and shared pool.

Pool
Spend a lazy afternoon around the swimming pool.

Gym
Enjoy the view while you work out in the gym.
