This delightful camp lies alongside the Maunachira River which flows through Xakanaxa Lagoon amidst the wilderness of one of Botswana’s prime game viewing regions – the world renowned Moremi Game Reserve. The area is remote and regarded as one of the most incredible wildlife reserves in the world. Camp Okuti is known as a photographer’s paradise; the camp offers luxury accommodation and guests can experience excellent year round game viewing opportunities in specially-designed safari vehicles. Refurbishment of Okuti took place at the beginning of 2014 and draws its influence from water which flows in front of the camp, with its abundant birdlife, fish and sandy river banks, it remains an oasis of serenity and peacefulness. Okuti’s spacious curved mosasas are located on raised teak decks with river views. Okuti comprises five twin-bedded, one honeymoon and two family mosasas, ( ancient tribal word for house of reeds), each with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor shower, hot and cold running water and flush toilet.

From Okuti you have access to one of the largest rivers of the Okavango Delta, the Maunachira River. The Maunachira River flows through Xakanaxa (meaning “Place of big water”) before becoming the Khwai River. The camp itself is located on the very edge of the channel with all the Masasa’s and main area overlooking the cool waters. Often guests will fall asleep at night to the sound of hippos munching the grass around their accommodation. Sundowner drinks and snacks can be enjoyed out on the Xakanaxa lagoon where the water resembles a mirror, perfectly reflecting the evening sky in all its glory.

2 x Family Mosasa

Okuti’s spacious curved mosasas are located on raised teak decks with river views. Each family Masasa has two bedrooms which share spacious bathroom facilities, indoor and outdoor shower, hot and cold running water and flush toilet – ideal for families in this child-friendly camp.

The dining area sit under the beehive-style thatched roofs of five huge rondavels (also referred to as ‘mosasas’). Inside, these are furnished in a contemporary style, with smooth wooden floors, comfortable woven seating and various ethnic carvings. Adobe walls beneath a high, tunnel-like roof define the large lounge, which culminates in a partly open area with great views across the lagoon and floodplain. There are plenty of chairs and tables, and guests are welcome to help themselves to drinks from the bar. Similar in construction is the long dining room, where brunch and dinner are usually served.

Dining Area

There are plenty of chairs and tables, and guests are welcome to help themselves to drinks from the bar. Similar in construction is the long dining room, where brunch and dinner are usually served. Meals at Okuti are quite sociable occasions. Both the guides and camp staff join guests during the meals and typically end up engaging the guests in lively conversation and laughter, which contributes to a fun atmosphere around the table.
