Alila Ubud is a jungle getaway only a stone’s throw from popular attractions like the Ubud Monkey Forest and Ubud Palace. The chic and tranquil hotel features two stylish eateries, a spa, and a magnificent infinity pool overlooking the lush ravine. Accessed via narrow roads winding through ultra-green rice fields, Alila Ubud is set on the edge of a lush valley containing the Ayung River. Plantation Restaurant is the main eatery, set in a thatched roof pavillion with a central bar, and views over the pool and valley. The artisanal breakfast menu rotates daily, and is served in tasting portions to encourage guests to try new dishes. A bakery basket with homemade jams is delivered immediately, followed by choices such as omelettes, ciabatta with tomatoes and feta cheese, or bubur ayam (Balinese rice porridge with fried peanuts and shredded chicken). The vibe changes during dinner, with white linens and candlelight, and a menu of farm-to-table Indonesian and Western-style dishes inspired by seasonal local produce – be warned that the perkedel jagung (sweetcorn patties with sweet chili sauce) are highly addictive, making any attempt to finish your main course futile.
