DINING

The hotel restaurant is run by managing director and chef Philipp Vogel, who has managed kitchens and restaurants in Shanghai, London, Berlin and Vienna (and whose wife Jenny Vogel manages the hotel’s front of house). Like the rest of the hotel it’s a neat balance of casual-chic, with a splashy red wall at the rear, stylish tables and chairs, plus bar seats that overlooks the chefs knocking up anything from artichoke salads to green curries in the open kitchen. The striking curved wooden bar serves excellent and considered coffees and wines during the daytime and a mean selection of wines, beers and cocktails in the evening, all of which can be enjoyed with views out onto the street. Breakfast is a refined and health-conscious buffet of cold cheeses and meats, fruits, cereals and yoghurts, plus a menu of eggs, pancakes and Asian breakfast dishes made to order.

Managing director and chef Philipp Vogel has made his career as head chef of renowned restaurants in Shanghai, London, Vienna and Berlin. In 2014, he was awarded a Michelin star at the Edvard restaurant in Vienna. He is a master in the art of refining the elementary by applying different methods of preparation on just three components for each dish. Philipp Vogel‘s latest coup: his well-known Signature Dish, the Xberg Duck. Vogel and his team manage to represent in four courses the multicultural twist of Kreuzberg by serving the duck in different ways.
