ACTIVITIES:
Mumbai is an eclectic mix of the old and the new. From iconic heritage structures to amusement parks there is plenty to see and do for the tourist. The Gateway of India overlooking the Arabian Sea is usually the first stop for most tourists. A ferry ride to Elephanta Caves leads to ancient Hindu caves with rock stone sculptures of Lord Shiva now a World Heritage site.
The Leela Mumbai is a verdant property known for its lush gardens and pathways lined with flowering shrubs and trees. Take a walk along the pool, its azure colour contrasting prettily with the green foliage and delight in the sight of the dense gardens filled with flowering shrubs and tropical palms – a luxury in the bustling metropolis city of Mumbai. The gardens of The Leela Mumbai are natural reserves for several rare species of Indian flora.
Let our concierge take you to the city’s hotspots. Catch a play* at the famed Prithvi Theatre in Juhu. You might also want to set off on a heritage walk or cycle tours around the historical spots around South Mumbai. Go on a shopping expedition to Chor Bazaar and Crawford Market or haggle away at Colaba Causeway.Sit back in one from the hotel’s BMW fleet of cars and take a unique tour* of the city, which includes the Slumdog Millionaire tour and the Bollywood tour.

When actively scouting for land in Mumbai to construct his first hotel, he and his wife stumbled upon a vast tract of 11 acres situated close to the international airport. There was no other commercial establishment around it, except for a taxi stand that catered to travellers arriving at the airport. His wife Leela’s deep instincts that travellers to the airport would need a place to stay, prompted him to take up the challenge of building a luxury hotel without conducting a market survey.Till date there is no other hotel in the precincts of Mumbai that is situated as expansively as The Leela Mumbai.
The Leela dates from the 1980s, but has been very well-maintained. The hotel is only a mile from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport – dreamily convenient when you’re arriving from or taking a flight. However, it’s not only an airport stopover, but feels like an escape from the city: local guests often stay here to take a break from hectic urban life. It’s less convenient if you’re planning to explore the centre, but it is close to Airport Road Metro station so you can get to Churchgate in Colaba via Metro (with one change) in around 45 minutes if need be. Its a graceful five-star hotel, with a great, greenery-surrounded pool.
There are 391 rooms in total. Premier rooms may be the entry-level, but they are still sizeable. The 58 rooms in the Royal Club area are larger and occupy the upper levels of the hotel. Largest are the 30 suites, which have dedicated butler service. In all categories, garden views are the pick, but otherwise you’re looking over low-rise city rooftops and the nearby Metro station. All rooms have the usual five-star accoutrements: fine thread count linen, a pillow menu, robes and toiletries, and the design is in warm but plain tones. The marble-lined bathroom is slightly dated but well-appointed, with twin massage showers.
