Historical Tours

Step back in time and get lost in the history of Adare Manor through our self-guided architecture and garden tour of the Manor House and our Manor Museum. With versions for both adults and children, these audio guides offer a captivating journey through the years to a time when the Earls of Dunraven and their families lived a gracious life in this magnificent home. Our new Manor Museum captures the long and demanding process of building the new Manor House over a period of more than 30 years, and tells the story of the Dunraven family and the significant events that took place in their lives across the generations.

The Woodland Walk

The very name of Adare Manor is intimately connected with the magic of trees. The Irish translation of Adare is Áth Dara, which means, the ford of the Oak Tree. Follow our woodland walk to a place forgotten by time, where trees dream their long dreams and leaves whisper their secrets. Here you will find poets’ huts handmade from wattle and reflective pools graced with ceramic art installations. The woodland walk is punctuated with short poems, and fairies wait to guide you along the path: the Hawthorn Fairy, the Oak Fairy, and some of their playful friends. They have hidden beautiful ceramic toadstools high in the trees for you to find. Mysterious footprints of forest animals, encased in clay, invite children and adults alike to pause and wonder. Five hundred bluebell chimes hang from the branches of the ancient beech trees. If you’re lucky enough to visit in springtime, you’ll see them reflected in the carpet of blue at your feet as the true bluebells emerge from their winter sleep.

Horse Drawn Carriage

Take in the sweeping views of the lush Irish countryside, fascinating historic sites, and memorable points of interest along the tour route as your personal guide shares engaging tales of Adare’s long history: the Norman invasions of the 12th century, the rebellions and uprisings which shaped the land and its families, the establishment of the quaint village with its picturesque thatch cottages, and stories of life in the Manor, from the days of the Dunravens up to today. You will have plenty of opportunities to capture lasting memories of this extraordinary place as the carriage tour pauses for scenic photo stops at several charming locations on the way. As a perfect introduction to Adare Manor or as a fitting farewell at the end of your visit, a horse drawn carriage ride around the estate is a wonderful way to imprint the beauty of this place on your heart forever.

Adare Manor

Adare Manor is a neo-Gothic architectural masterpiece, once the family seat of the Earls of Dunraven. Today it is cherished as a warm and welcoming five-star luxury resort, with all air-conditioned guestrooms lavishly appointed with original art, Georgian-style furnishings, and marble bathrooms. Guests may create an itinerary of activities on the sweeping 840-acre estate, with golf, falconry, archery, clay shooting, gundog displays, fishing, a spa with La Mer products, and more, all available on-site. Fine dining and world-class libations across the resort’s many restaurants, lounges, and bars offer something to tempt every palate. Just outside the manor gates, the charming village of Adare is a beautiful blend of traditional thatched cottages, antique shops, boutiques, and friendly pubs.

Located immediately adjacent to The Carriage House, our resort dining destination and social hub, and a three minute walk from the Manor House. These self-catering houses can accommodate up to four people in a two bedroom Lodge and up to eight people in a four bedroom Lodge. Adare Manor’s ambition is to become one of Ireland’s preeminent culinary destinations. Wood-panelled fine-dining restaurant The Oak Room serves sophisticated but unfussy Irish cuisine – think Kilkenny duck with chicory and orange. The Drawing Room serves a well-executed take on soup and sandwiches for lunch, alongside creative cakes and cocktails. A good-quality breakfast buffet is served in the grand Gallery, as is a classic afternoon tea. Not open during my stay, The Tack Room bar serves rare Irish whiskeys and hosts occasional live music sessions. I tried a ‘pop-up’ gastropub-style menu and was disappointed by the execution – my (wagyu) burger was bland and dry, my partner’s fish overcooked and underseasoned.

Adare Manor The Oak Room
