ACTIVITIES:

The God's Walking Pathway
This is the best known pathway of the Amalfi. Coast and its emphatic name is absolutely perfect considering the wonderful views and the spectacular landscape this track offers to the eye. Starting from a little square in Bomerano, which is one of Agerola’s five hamlets, following an alley which once led to the “Grotta Biscotto” (Biscuit Grotto), walking down through slight terraces, the way gradually turns into a pathway stretching as far as Cone Serra. Thence you turn left and walk on along the most charming trail until (approx. one and a half hours) you reach Nocelle, a little village among the hills just above Positano. The following three options are offered from there: A) descending the 1700 stairs separating Nocelle from the main coast road (SS 163); B) climbing on as far as a paved road from where a line bus will drive you to Positano; C) returning to Bomerano.

Conca dei Marini
Monastero Santa Rosa’s home is in Conca dei Marini, the utopian coastal fishing village built up and down towering Monte San Pancrazio with every idyllic motif—seaside harbor with bronzed fisherman, tiny chapel and charming beach, hillside churches and weathered pastel cottages, and turquoise sea. Conca dei Marini, Latin for “basin of the sea,” is one of the coast’s tranquil alternatives to crowded Positano and Amalfi and a known favorite of Jacqueline Kennedy, who used to lunch at the Hotel Santa Rosa when the Marcucci family owned this famed “castle hotel of Italy.”

It offers 20 fabulous rooms, a world class spa, one of the most instagrammed infinity pools in the world and spectacular views. The gorgeous grounds feature 4 levels of terraced lush gardens, plentiful lounge chairs and canopied daybeds to relax and soak in the sea views. Each elegant room still exudes the sense of tranquility where a nun once stayed, a totally private and intimate retreat bathed in the angelic sunlight of a breathtaking stretch of Amalfi Coastline. The culinary treats of Santa Rosa’s Michelin-Starred restaurant, Il Refetorio, are as unique as the monastery itself, with an innovative Mediterranean gastronomic experience for the most discerning palate with the freshest ingredients from the Campania region.

Meals can be enjoyed indoors on cooler evenings and outdoors under the stars in the summer months on the restaurant terrace. The hotel’s extensive & beautifully manicured gardens offer guests a place to relax and unwind on large day beds that are hidden in quiet spots. The hotel’s jaw dropping infinity pool offers magnificent views over the bay and has a terrace with sun loungers. A rarity for the region, the hotel has a large and well-equipped spa & wellness centre, offering treatment rooms, steam rooms, thermal pools, a special foot spa, hydro pools, experience shower and even a rock sauna with crushed ice fountain. Guests are welcome to feel a part of the scene at the library and bar. Relax down by the pool or discover the resort’s secret gardens, quiet sun decks, & indoor relaxation areas.

Each room and suite reflects beauty, charm and understated elegance while exuding the peaceful mood of a private estate home complete with rare antiques and spectacular sea views. Although the walls house the history of a 17th-century monastery, every room contains all the luxury comforts and amenities of a five-star hotel, including flat-screen televisions, complimentary high-speed internet access throughout the property, in-room safes, and 24-hour room service. Unique special touches authentically Italian are found with Ortigia bath products and Santa Maria Novella pomegranate bath salts from our spa.

Enter a sanctuary evoking a lost time. The spiritual enchantment of the transformed monastery remains ever present in the luxuriously converted 20 rooms and suites, each named for an herb that the nuns would have used in making their medicines from the Monastero Santa Rosa garden. Vaulted ceilings and the primary structure of the nuns’ rooms and refectory have been preserved and linked together with ensuites to create sumptuous bedrooms, each with a spellbinding sea view stretching from the Conca dei Marini’s fishing harbor below to Amalfi beyond.

A local Neopolitan designer has collaborated with the owner to create an elegant ambiance graced by timeless Italian antiques. Every conceivable lavish amenity and comfort abound. But the focus remains the vistas. From this distinct vantage perch, the dazzling coast and Gulf of Salerno is revealed, framed through windows and balconies facing the sea. Each room still exudes the sense of tranquility where a nun once stayed—a totally private and intimate retreat bathed in the angelic sunlight of the Amalfi Coast.

The suites represent an authentic Italian residential experience. Each suite has been individually designed with furniture hand picked by the owner, Bianca, throughout her travels in Italy. One-of-a-kind antiques accent the suites while historical black and white photographs taken before the renovation don the walls evoking the spiritual past. The suites vary in size with each space completely unique—some with elegant living and dining rooms as well as terraces swathed in bougainvillea lingering over the Gulf of Salerno and the enchanting Conca dei Marini fishing village.

Sea View Premium Terrace Suite

The Sea View Premium Terrace Suite (Citrus) has historic ties to the Kennedy family. In the 1960s, when the monastery had become the well-known Albergo Monastero di Santa Rosa, one of the “39 castles of Italy,” Jacqueline Kennedy used to lunch here on freshly caught local fish when this suite’s space housed the property’s original dining area. Now, its enormous terrace hangs over the center of the property, suspended over the Amalfi Coast with breathtaking coastal and sea views. Complete with alfresco dining table, lounges, lemon trees, and a retractable canopy when the Amafli sun blazes too strong, it is an ideal locale for a small private reception or dinner party.

Sea View Rosa Suite

Exclusivity, sumptuous luxury, and divine views seduce guests in this lavish suite (Rosa). An authentic Italian residential experience, this one-of-a-kind lofted suite is decorated with original pieces from the monastery and antiques from the owner’s travels throughout Italy.
The Sea View Rosa Suite sprawls over 1,450 square feet (130 square meters) and two levels with awe-inspiring sea-view windows around the circumference. Downstairs, the open-plan dining and living room with fireplace features a separate bar area, ideal for private receptions. A dramatic curved staircase leads upstairs to the bedroom, which is suspended over the living room with a glass railing, giving it a modern, loft-like feel.

As Monastero Santa Rosa hovers between sea and sky, fittingly so too does its Ristorante’s terrace.  Suspended over the Gulf of Salerno, the hotel’s restaurant terrace allows guests to dine alfresco while admiring one of the most exclusive views on the entire Amalfi Coast. Or indulge in Mediterranean haute cuisine indoors under vaulted ceilings in the intimate formal dining room. During the day, dine outdoors aside the infinity pool or among the terraced cascading gardens. Whatever venue you choose, our chef, our maitre d’, our sommelier and our waiters all take great pride in sharing their passion for service and gourmet cuisine.

For lunch enjoy light Mediterranean fare served alfresco on the pergola-shaded dining terrace, aside the infinity pool under the blazing Amalfi Coast sun or in our cascading garden terraces overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. Breakfast is served in the comfort of your room on silver trays or outside under the pergola shaded dining terrace.

Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel Spa Amalfi Ristorante Il Refettorio
Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel Spa Amalfi Ristorante Il Refettorio

Ristorante Il Refettorio - One Michelin Star

The culinary treats of Santa Rosa’s Michelin-Starred restaurant, Il Refetorio, are as unique as the monastery itself. Our distinguished Executive Chef Christoph Bob has created an innovative Mediterranean gastronomic experience for the most discerning palate with the freshest ingredients from the surrounding Campania region. Christoph has worked in some of the world’s most celebrated restaurants, but amore drew him to the Amalfi Coast and to our prized kitchen. Married to a woman from the Amalfi Coast, Christoph muses, “I not only fell in love with my wife, I fell in love with the destination and its food. Nowhere on earth does the sun and the soil give us such richness of flavors as do the fresh produce, herbs, and seafood found right here on our coast.”

Chef Bob’s insatiable love affair with food is reflected in every delectable dish on the menu. Precision-perfect flavors focusing on the bounty of the sea combine in his specialties like the appetizer trio of crustaceans—lobster with chickpea puree and smoked olive oil broad bean salad with Colonnata’s bacon and king prawn ravioli with Corbara’s tomatoes and candied lemon. Or relish main course mouthwatering fusilli with baby squids, Piennolo’s tomatoes and basil-scented aubergines. With Monastero Santa Rosa’s own herb and vegetable garden on site, every morsel combines the freshest local, organic ingredients of Conca dei Marini.

As a basis for his cooking, Chef Bob uses a 100% Italian special select olive oil produced especially for the kitchen of the Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa. This beautiful extra virgin olive oil from Conca dei Marini is called Il Mulino della Signora, meaning “the mill of the lady.” The Chef also sourced the finest quality pasta, the famed Pastificio dei Campi Gragnano, and created a shape that is unique for his Amalfi Coast restaurant. Pastificio dei Campi is arguably the best production of pasta in Italy, bronze drawn, slowly dried, and prepared in a traditional way respecting the environment.

Fundamental to the ultimate dining experience, Monastero Santa Rosa’s wine cellar ranges from local Italian reds to vintage French champagne to fine chardonnays. Our sommelier is at your disposal to help pair your meal with the perfect accompaniment.

Formal Dining or Alfresco Dining

Guests are welcome to feel a part of the scene at the library and bar. Engage in a game of chess or cards or read while sipping a martini in the modern cocktail area. Relax down by the pool or discover the resort’s secret gardens, quiet sun decks, and indoor relaxation areas. Get the best of both worlds by making your stay as energizing or relaxed as you wish, by selecting different spaces to suit your mood at any time.

Monastero Santa Rosa stands secluded along the famed Blue Highway near the quaint fishing village of Conca dei Marini. Centrally located, the hotel is just a 20-minute car or boat ride from the most scenic towns along this glamorous coastline—notably Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Although the villages of the Amalfi Coast are a magnet for the wealthy with their luxury hotels and million-dollar yachts sprinkling the sea, what characterizes the region is its effortless Mediterranean simplicity—cobblestone streets, fresh seafood drizzled in olive oil, bougainvillea-covered villas, sweet citrus scents wafting from abundant lemon groves, and unrivaled views.

For walkers, the hamlets of Montepertuso and Nocelle in the hills above Positano provide dramatic ancient trail terrain. The Sentiero degli Dei, Path of the Gods, lives up to its formidable name. The route is suitable for all hiking levels and stretches from Agerola to Praiano to Positano through blissfully quiet mountains with haunting panoramas.

Literally above Amalfi, take the stairs or ride up to Ravello, a balcony for the entire Amalfi Coast with celestial views stretching from Atrani to the temples of Paestum. A tiny, utterly charming village 350 meters above the sea, Ravello represents nature’s music. Hanging in the clouds, Ravello is most famous for hosting summer classical concerts alfresco in its beautiful patrician villas with spectacular gardens, the Rufulo and Cimbrone, one stepping closer to the sky than the last. Linger near the cathedral of San Pantaleone or shop for colorful ceramic dishes. Afterwards, take a refreshing mile walk to Scala, the smallest and oldest of the Amalfitan towns.

Easily accessible from Amalfi or Positano via a 20-minute ferry is the Bay of Naples’ most exquisite island Capri with its picturesque cobblestone alleys and piazzettas, churches and mysterious blue grottoes. Capri’s appeal lies not in the endless rows of petite designer boutiques along the Via Camarelle or in the Marina Grande’s and main Piazzetta’s madness, but in its secluded hotels hanging over cliff faces, peaceful vistas, spectacular gardens and off-the-beaten-track walking trails. Stroll to the end of Via Tragara for a mesmerizing glimpse of I Faraglioni’s three gigantic limestone pinnacles jutting up through the blue-green sea. Then continue on Giro dell’Arco Naturale’s scenic cliff hugging trail which loops past Capri’s most beautiful turn-of-the-century villa, Villa Solitaria, as well as past the ancient Roman natural cave, Grotto di Matermania.

Spa

Monastero Santa Rosa is a place of abundant scent of rosemary and lemon. The wide tiered gardens that cascade to an infinity edged pool, seemingly embrace the panoramic views from the edge of a towering cliff facade dropping dramatically to the calm azure of the Amalfi Coast. Centuries of history behind ancient walls tell a tale of community and the offering of sanctuary, healing and comfort.  Each room within the Spa preserves the original 17th Century vaulted ceilings and many of its rustic walls, maintaining the monastic heritage of this beautiful property. The Italian heritage of bathing is presented in the form of a Thermal Suite, consisting of a collection of vaulted spaces inter-connecting the various warm rooms via arched openings & changes of levels… a discovery around each corner. The Suite includes a stunning double-height vaulted Tepidarium with pomegranate infused foot spas & heated mosaic loungers; domed Aromatic Steam Room; crushed Ice fountain to refresh between thermal bathing; Rock Sauna; Hydro Pool and Emotion Showers.

The most exceptional treatment room – the Spa Suite, is a stunning 80m2 double height vaulted space with Rasul; steam room; double wet & dry treatment couches; manicure / pedicure; relaxation lounge; private dressing & grooming space and a garden terrace… a ‘private spa within a spa’. Alternatively, guests can enjoy a treatment outdoors under the shade of a pergola within the privacy of the Treatment Garden, or be cocooned within one of our historic single treatment rooms.

Pool

Unquestionably, the vanished-edge infinity pool of the Monastero Santa Rosa is the most dramatic and precipitous of the entire Amalfi Coast. Seamlessly architecturally sculpted into the rock-base cliff of Monte San Pancrazio at the lowest level of Santa Rosa’s sloping cascade of gardens, the elliptically shaped fresh water infinity pool blends into the sea, disappearing between the horizon and sky.
