The canoe is a perfect activity for the waters of the lake, magnificent for the view, further gratifying for the mildness of the climate. It can be practiced every day, from 9.30 to 19.00.

Located inside the Sporting Club, the squash court is open from 7.00am to 8.00pm. Rackets can be rented on site.
The lake with its serene expanse is the ideal setting for an exciting sport like water skiing. It is possible to do it every day from 11.00 to 18.30. No reservation is required.
Another perfect sport to enjoy the magical setting of Lake Como and to make the most of its microclimate. Guests who do not have their own equipment can rent it at the Sporting Club, every day from 9.30 to 19.00.
You can choose to rent a private boat with driver, deciding where to stop, or take the comfortable ferry or hydrofoil to Cernobbio to visit the picturesque villages overlooking the lake. Or rent one of Villa d’Este’s boats and explore on your own. We recommend reserving the private boat in advance.
The Aeroclub of Como boasts the distinction of being the oldest seaplane flight organization and the oldest flying school in the world. Seeing the lake from above is extremely fascinating, so we recommend booking this unique experience in advance.
If you are a nature lover and like walking, there is a beautiful path about 1.5 kms long in the park of the grounds of the Villa d’Este. If this isn’t challenging enough for you, then hop on a boat or get a taxi to Como and catch the funicular as far as Brunate where you can walk on a scenic and fairly easy trail as far as Torno. Alternatively, go by car up to Mount Bisbino (above the Villa D’Este) and then walk along the “Lariano Trail” or go by car as far as Lenno where you can walk along the “Via Crucis” path. Along this path, admire fourteen chapels with life-size statues which lead to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso. Or go by car to Griante and then climb up to the church of San Martino from where you can enjoy some of the most spectacular views over the central area of Lake Como. If you feel a little unsure because you’ve never been to this area, we can arrange for you to be escorted by guides who will also provide you with information on the area.

Built in 1815, Villa Cima is the only one located on the banks of the lake, a few steps from the Cardinal’s Building. Built nothing less than by Caroline of Brunswick, Princess of Wales and future Queen of England, to host the Count and the Countess Pino, former owners of Villa d’Este, offers a view of the lake that will remain an indelible memory in your remembrance.
Built in 1860, Villa Malakoff stands on a small hill within the grounds of Villa d’Este, a few steps from the Cardinal Building and the Lake. The Villa owes its name to the fortress near Sevastopol, conquered by the French general MacMahon. But only the name: the stay at Villa Malakoff is in fact an experience of total relaxation and comfort, a gift to be done to yourself at least once in life.
The Villa Garrovo was built in 1833 and recently completely renovated. Located in the park of the Hotel, a few steps from the Cardinal building, has views on the lake and the gardens. While respecting the elegant atmosphere of Villa d’Este, the Villa Garrovo has a current design with light paint shades. Formerly known as “Chalet Suisse”, in keeping with 19th-century style and fashion, it soon became the Villa that all the VIPs had to visit. After a complete re-installation and renovation of its rooms, in 2015 it was renamed Villa Garrovo, like the stream that flows into the lake.
A stone’s throw from the Cardinal Building, in the most spectacular spot of the Villa d’Este grounds, within the iconic mosaic garden and its Nymphaeum, stands the Mosaic House; it is accessed through a private courtyard. Not only does it owe its name to the splendid, neighboring, Mosaico di Giocondo Albertolli and to the decorations of the famous Nymphaeum, but it is itself a “mosaic”, elegant and refined, which will welcome you in its magical world for an unforgettable stay.
With large windows offering panoramic lake views, Veranda is the hotel’s main restaurant serving Italian and international fine dining cuisine in an elegant setting (jacket and tie for men in the evenings) with views of the lake and the Mosaic Garden. A generous buffet breakfast is served here; it’s a lavish spread, with fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, homemade pastries and breads, along with hot dishes made to order. The more informal Grill serves Italian dishes and offers lake and garden views, while Il Platano offers international dining on a pleasant terrace overlooking the gardens and the lake. For a light lunch or an aperitivo in summer, head to Sundeck by the floating pool, while you can enjoy an afternoon tea, coffee or aperitivo in the hotel’s sumptuous Canova Bar. Terrazza Bar and d’Este Club
It is hard to imagine a Dolce Vita that is less persuasive than that offered by the Bar Terrazza and d’Este Club every Saturday evening. The starry night of Lake Como awaits you in an exceptional location, made even more vibrant by an exciting and enveloping soundtrack, thanks to the intrepid class of our orchestra and our musicians.
Facilities are exceptional; you could stay for weeks and not do the same thing twice. Connected to the main building via a discreet passageway, the Sporting Club offers a large indoor swimming pool, fitness room, sauna, steam room, golf simulator and squash court. Outdoors you’ll find eight tennis courts, a children’s pool, a putting green, a floating pool on the lake and hiking trails that crisscross the grounds, while there’s water-skiing, canoeing, SUP, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing on the lake.

Equipped with the most modern gear, the fitness gym is located inside the Sporting Club and it is open from 7.00 to 20.00, every day. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Tennis is at home in Villa d’Este. The 8 tennis courts (6 clay courts) are located inside the park and are open from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. Guests who do not have the equipment can rent rackets directly on site.
Villa d’Este Golf Club. Owned by the Hotel until the late ’70s, the Golf Villa d’Este is located 7 miles (12 kilometers) from the hotel, near the lake of Montorfano. Designed in 1926 by architect Peter Gannon, it is located at a height of about 400 meters, surrounded by chestnut, birch and pine woods, in a scenario reminiscent of Scotland. The 18-hole course is considered one of the most challenging and difficult “par 69” in Europe. Every year it hosts many international competitions. The Club House offers a lovely view of the lake.
