PROPERTY HIGHLIGHTS:
- Serene, peaceful, heartbreakingly beautiful, this 17th century palace with its carved plaster arches and orange-tree shaded courtyard got its Art Deco edge in the 1920s after an earthquake. Today it’s the ultimate base from which to lose your heart to the mystical labyrinth that is the Fes el Bali.
- Palais Amani is a family-run, 18-room property, housed in the former home of one of Fez’s most prominent families. We pride ourselves on being the local choice: we work exclusively with local staff, ingredients and products so that we can give back to the community of Fez.
- The Palais Amani is the true definition of the word Riad as at the centre of our eighteen bedroom boutique hotel is a spectacular garden with a fountain at the heart of the garden.
- The building’s focus is inwards; from the rooms and suites, to the dining room, salon and library, every part of the palace looks towards the garden.
- Within the refined and soothing atmosphere, it is difficult to image that the bustling medina is only a couple of metres away.
- Hammam, massages and beauty treatments: all these Moroccan traditions will gently paper you in the luxury of the Palais amani.
- Home to the Fez Cooking School, we offer a various amount of cooking workshops with breaking views over the medina’s rooftop.

ACTIVITIES:
The Zalagh hillside range sits above Fez’s medina. In Berber, Zalagh, means male kid goat and a hike along the backbone of this massive beast of a hillside gives you a taste of the Berber way of life at less than 30 minutes from the urban labyrinth below. Leaving the Oued Zhoune car park the road winds steeply up from the medina and in 5 minutes you are already in countryside driving up through olive ancient groves. Turn the corner and you are plunged into Berber countryside. Your chauffeur takes a dirt track and for 15 to 20 minutes you can take in the scenery dotted with vernacular farmsteads. The population lives in almost complete self-sufficiency, using mules to farm, cooking with firewood and collecting their water from the local well. A passing shepherd waves as you drive by and as far as the eye can see the Rif mountain scenery stretches out to the end of time. On the shorted hiking option, reaching Zalagh’s summit and onwards to the peak of the range is easy enough for all and takes no more than an hour and a half, even at a leisurely pace. The elevation provides the ideal temperature for an escape from the heat and the walk along the top of the ridge offers you stunning views of the entire ancient city, the Sebou Valley, Rif Mountains and Sais Plains. Your guide will bring you back to the perfect spot for a picnic and you will dine in the shade of the pine trees before walking back down to the car. Despite its proximity to the city, it is never crowded, much to the delight of mountain bikers and hikers alike..
A visit to the Medina is a plunge into a medieval labyrinth where the discovery of cultural heritage and the pleasure for shopping become one. The ornate Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud) is the starting point for an itinerary rich in monuments…
Built years ago in different times, with clay, bricks or rubble, the ancient walls of Fez have several fortified gates allowing entry to the Medina. The tour includes the visit of the gates offering a splendid view of the city from a different angle.
Lift the lid of an earthenware tagine and get under the surface of this fascinating country, by plunging into the souks with our chef as a guide and taste some of the simple delicacies that are on our doorstep. Experience a hand on workshop in a meticulously restored palace in the medina, and round off the experience with lunch or dinner in the gardens enjoying the food you have created. This is a journey with a difference, a cultural exchange that goes well beyond the list of ingredients or a visit to the tourist sights.
To get to Ifrane, we drive across the small town of Immouzer, highly visited in summer due to its more moderate climate. You will continue to the surprising Daiet Aoua Lake where you can admire the surrounding hills reflected in its waters… Once in Ifrane, you will like the unusual feel of this town. The road continues towards the ski resorts of Michlifen and Jebel Habri. Then driving south towards Azrou, we make a stopover at the cedar Gouraud. There, we can sometimes see the Monkeys that live in this forest. The trip lasts for half- a-day or more, depending on the time taken to admire the diverse landscap.
A town of Berber origin, Taza is the crossing point of Eastern Morocco and Algeria. It flourished under the Merinides who built many mosques and Medersas. The old town is surrounded by impressive ramparts. Taza’s surroundings are very rich in natural sceneries: Ras El Oued Waterfalls, Friouato Cave and the Chiker Cave for certified speleologists or potholers. At about 50 km away, rises Djebel Tazzeka (1980m), in the middle of the National Park with the same name. From the top of this mountain, the view of the Rif and Middle Atlas Mountains is simply breathtaking. A visit to the weekly souks (Oued Amlil on Tuesday and Sidi Abdeljelil on Thursday) is another way to discover this beautiful region.
Founded in the 17th century, Sefrou is a Berber town located at about thirty kilometers from Fez where North meets South. It is valued for its waterfalls and the variety of landscapes that can be admired from Sidi Ali Bousserghine’s sanctuary. Today, Sefrou is an important agricultural center that displays the richness of its crops at every Cherry Festival in June. A few kilometers away, across lovely olive groves, lies Bhalil, famous for its troglodytic houses.
Situated at 20 km West of Fez in a quiet green landscape in spring and scenery like desert in summer, this thermal spa is known for its sulfur- rich hot springs recommended in the treatment of rheumatism and skin diseases. Rejuvenation programs are also available.
Day outing to a local winery, with guided tour of the vines and Cellars, including wine tasting.
