New Zealand and golf have a long history. Scottish immigrants introduced the game in the South Island in the 19th century and their links-style courses still thrive today. British Open champion Sir Bob Charles and more recently Michael Campbell’s win at the US Open in 2005 put New Zealand firmly in the modern golf spotlight. And golfing greats, the likes of Nick Faldo, Arnold Palmer and Greg Norman have trodden the fairways of New Zealand and praised their beauty and quality. A number of the Lodges of New Zealand have either their own world class course set in outstanding locations or are close to some of New Zealand’s premier courses and golf resorts – including two in the Golf Digest World Top 50 rankings. The Lodges can arrange everything for you – from tee times to your favourite post game cocktail – to ensure a quality experience. All you have to worry about is the quality of your swing.
Whether it is the world’s finest wild brown trout that lures you to New Zealand, or maybe it’s the famous Taupo rainbows, the salmon or big game, superb fly fishing or light tackle spinning the spectacular environment will exhilarate you, the new techniques required will challenge you and the rewards can be fabulous. There is great trout fishing year round in New Zealand’s outstanding rivers and lakes. Summer river fly fishing October-May is available throughout the country and advance reservations for guides are advisable. In winter, you’ll find the world’s best fresh water rainbow trout runs in the central North Island. Boat fishing is available throughout the year in Rotorua, Taupo and some South Island lakes. Our lodges have a wealth of experience in planning walk out / drive out and heli fishing day trips with their own qualified professional fishing guides.

Each villa features private entrances, heated horizon edged lap pools (excluding First Light) Jacuzzis, fireplaces, air conditioning (excluding Sacred Space), integrated home cinema systems, gourmet kitchens, high speed wireless internet access, exotic landscaping, and superb views of the Bay of Islands. The smallest of the villas, First Light, is ideal for honeymooners, with one bedroom and separate his ’n’ hers bathrooms. The other villas have either three or four en-suite bedrooms, and the enormous beds feel like sleeping on a cloud. Refreshingly, none of the bedrooms have TVs; the view is the only distraction you need – although you can, of course, request one. Presidential suite Rahimoana has to be seen to be believed. It has a 25-metre pool, sliding glass walls, eight bathrooms, a private beach, gym, sauna, wine cellar and use of a Porsche Cayenne.

Rahimoana Villa
In soft shades of pale grey and white, Rahimoana epitomizes the refined elegance of modern minimalism. With a dramatic aerofoil copper roof serenely floating above three meter sliding glass walls, Rahimoana offers 300 degree views of ocean, islands, sunsets and landscapes. Four superb en suite bedrooms occupy the four corners and flank the generous living and entertaining areas. All have breathtaking views and flow onto granite balconies, and then on to the beautifully landscaped lawns and grounds. The ever changing ocean and sky, islands, sunsets, wildlife and the sounds of the waves rolling onto the private beach hint at why Rahimoana is an ultimate holiday villa.

Sacred Space
Casually elegant, all suites are uniquely appointed with original artwork and antique furnishings. The large two storey glass roofed living area transforms gracefully from relaxed living to formal dining and then into a private movie theater at night. The master bedroom occupies the entire upstairs and enjoys four exposures, all with superb views. The villa’s open plan gourmet kitchen adjoins the dining and lounge areas and all open onto beautiful outdoor decks and living areas, including the pool and spa on the east, where there is another full bathroom and outdoor shower which adjoins the sauna.

First Light Temple
Growing out of the hillside, overlooking the magnificent land and seascapes is the ultimate honeymoon suite or love nest, an idyllic retreat for two. Stunning and romantic, First Light Temple offers the latest in simplicity and elegance of international high fashion. The mezzanine bedroom features spectacular views and has a floor to ceiling glass shower in the en suite, and skylight over the bed. The main floor has indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and walls of glass bifold doors that open onto a stunning balcony on three sides. The villa has a fabulous gourmet kitchen, another full bathroom and an outdoor shower.

Eagles Spirit
Tucked into the hillside, Eagles Spirit offers peace and relaxation in a sheltered, sun drenched location. Nestled into a sea of native bush, the tranquility and seclusion of the private villa, the panoramic ocean vistas overlooking the historical grounds of Waitangi will capture the imagination. Watch dolphins play just below, while unwinding in the outdoor heated spa pool, or on the sun lounger on the deck.

The Eyrie
From the expansive outdoor living area, watch the sunset, and enjoy the stunning views of the Bay of Islands. The Eyrie is situated high up in native bush overlooking the ocean, Waitangi, Paihia and the Islands of the North. The luxury villa is ideal for three couples or a family, and features original artwork and contemporary design. The gourmet kitchen overlooks the private and secluded courtyard, surrounded by tropical plants and alive with native birds.
Self-catering is welcomed, and all villas have kitchens and a gas BBQ outside. Your fridge is stocked with complimentary breakfast items – including eggs, bacon, smoked salmon, yoghurt and juices – while there is a daily bowl of fresh fruit, cereals, breads, bespoke tea and a Nespresso machine. The fridge also contains wines, beers and bubbles which, surprisingly, are very reasonably priced. For a decadent treat, chefs from Russell’s acclaimed Duke of Marlborough restaurant can whip up an in-villa feast, with local specialities including crayfish and oysters.
