With over two miles of pristine coastline, four private beaches and countless intimate coves, Helena Bay Lodge is the ultimate romantic escape. Situated in the northeast corner of New Zealand’s North Island, Helena Bay Lodge is a delightfully intimate retreat. Here, amidst the sound of crashing waves and stunning views over the Pacific, guests will find a home away from home. Named after native New Zealand birds, the three junior suites and two villa suites are designed to host no more than five couples (or a private group). Each of the villas is appointed with divinely comfortable beds, handmade linens, walk-in wardrobes and spacious balconies where guests can view Helena Bay, the South Pacific Ocean and its native wildlife, including dolphins and whales.
Foodies will be pleased to find world-class cuisine from celebrated Italy’s Michelin-starred Ristorante Don Alfonso 1890. When creating the Helena Bay menu, Head Chef Michele Martino focuses on age-old traditions of the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi Coast, offering guests ‘estate to plate’ cuisine sourced directly from Helena Bay’s on-property farm. The property offers a wide range of activities including kayaking, fishing, farm tours, bicycles and clay shooting. Our 800 acres combine a mix of forestry and open paddocks and with miles of tracks there is plenty to explore. This remote and wild location makes Helena Bay Lodge a slice of heaven.
Helena Bay hosts a maximum of five individual couples accommodated in five luxury Suites which are named after New Zealand native birds. All the Suites have extensive balconies with views overlooking Helena Bay beach and beyond to the South Pacific Ocean. Leica binoculars are provided for the opportunity to view bird life, visiting whales and dolphins, and vessels tracking across the bay out to sea. No expense has been spared when dressing these suites. Helena Bay has brought the celebrated Michelin starred Ristorante Don Alfonso 1890 of Southern Italy to New Zealand. Under the direction and the influence of Don Alfonso’s philosophy of respecting the local food culture while incorporating the age-old traditions of the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi Coast, fine dining will define the hospitality experience at Helena Bay. Significant investment has been made at Helena Bay to offer guests ‘Estate to Plate’ cuisine. The menus, which change daily, are created following the Don Alfonso philosophy. Meals are becoming more about entertainment, to be experienced like theatre, but turning meals into a provocative spectacle is only part of the show; their contents must be a true absolute reference because we are what we eat. Here at Helena Bay, as at Sant’Agata sui due Golfi, we begin from the earth, growing everything that we use in our restaurant. In this new paradise we bring not only our know-how but our hearts.

Degustation Dinner
Our talented Chefs prepare a different five-course degustation menu every night, showcasing their signature dishes. You can choose to have a lighter three-course option if you wish – this menu will take you through a beautiful selection of flavours, we often think the dishes look too good to eat! Our reception team will email you a food preference form prior to your arrival, encouraging you to list any dietary requirements and of course any favourites you would like included.

Private Dining
The Den is our smallest, most intimate private dining area. Comfortably seating two persons this intimate room hosts our library along with a log fire. The Formal Lounge is our larger private dining room and has a wide screen television. A great private space to host a business meeting or if you simply can’t miss that game!

Wine Cellar
The wine cellar at Helena Bay houses has more than 240 selections and over 2,100 bottles of carefully selected New Zealand and international wines; some are true finds which, in the hands of our Wine Manager, are the perfect companions for the exquisite meals served in our many dining venues.

Picnics
We offer a range of delicious picnics that you are welcome to take anywhere on the property, Mohei Beach is always a popular choice. With prior booking, the pavillion is a spectacular place for alfresco eating. There are lots of great sports to explore on the property including another three private beaches – we recommend taking one of our Polaris 4WD Rangers to find your perfect spot.

There is an extensive DVD library and the ‘club lounge’ boasts a large, surround-sound television. The parlour has a cigar cabinet. Queenstown Gym is a three-minute walk from the hotel, free for guests’ use, and extensively equipped. There’s a private entrance to the penthouse for guests who value anonymity.

Pool
The central courtyard of the lodge surrounds a spectacular 25-metre in-ground heated swimming pool which is kept at 28°C. The outdoor pool is ideal for gentle morning exercise or to unwind after a busy day. Afterwards, why not enjoy the opportunity to lounge on our poolside terrace and soak up the sun.

It houses a dry sauna, steam room, cool plunge pool and retreat room along with private changing rooms. Don your dressing gown and slippers as we welcome you to indulge, relax and unwind.
