ACTIVITIES:
Using Huka Lodge as your base, you can experience some of New Zealand’s outstanding skiing or snow boarding at Tongariro National Park. Turoa and Whakapapa ski fields, on the slopes of Mt. Ruapehu, both lie within the Tongariro National Park.
Five-minutes drive from Huka Lodge. The course lies on 450 acres of lush rolling countryside and was developed to meet the rigorous design standards required for world-class championship competition. Natural contours coupled with 6,414 metres of championship tees and 180 bunkers have led to world acclaim.
At 616-square kilometres, it is the land mass equivalent of Singapore. The lake’s attractive pumice sand beaches give it the appearance of an inland ocean and it offers excellent all year round scenic lake cruises and fishing experiences. Most fishing on the lake takes the form of trolling using either lures or flies, with the catch averaging around four pounds.
The history of this volcanic region combined with stunning scenery, fresh, clean rivers, a huge lake and strong Maori culture make it one of the most interesting areas for walking and hiking. You will need good walking boots, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, waterproof jacket and clothing appropriate to the various weather conditions.
Poronui is nested in a secluded mountain valley between Lake Taupo and the east coast plains of the Pacific Ocean. Join us for 2-hours floating down Taupo’s spectacular Waikato River by kayak. Paddle under the bungy site, swim in the river and soak in the natural hot springs. No experience necessary – this trip is for everyone and excellent for children.
The 30-minute adrenalin-filled trip, skims close to cliffs and trees at an incredible 80km an hour. Get ready for the thrill of 360º spins as you make your way down to the Aratiatia Dam and back to view from the base of the spectacular Huka Falls, all in a beautiful river environment. Safety is paramount and the drivers are experienced professionals.
Raft over 50 plus fun, exciting rapids on the Tongariro River on pristine, clear water, through native flora and beside volcanic cliffs. You will see spectacular wildlife, lots of trout and regularly see the endangered native whio whio (blue duck). You can also walk up a stream and jump off the hidden Puketarata waterfall, (optional and weather permitting).
The central North Island offers some of the best hunting in New Zealand. This is available all year round with the possibility of good trophy heads. Bird shooting is seasonal and includes pheasant, duck, and quail, turkeys are plentiful and can be hunted at any time. Allow us create a hunt to suit your specific requirements.

Situated on the shores of Lake Taupo in the beautiful volcanic plateau of the Tongariro National Park. Taupo Tandem Skydiving was the first tandem sky dive operation in New Zealand and is currently the largest in the world. Exiting the plane up to 15,000 feet, with over one minute in free-fall, take the opportunity to experience the incomparable exhilaration this activity brings.

Huka Lodge offers just 25 rooms including 18 Junior Lodge Suites, one double Lodge suite, the four-suite Owner’s Cottage and the two-suite Alan Pye Cottage. The suites all enjoy uninterrupted views of the deep turquoise green waters of the Waikato River and offer every comfort from feather pillows and homemade biscuits to magnificent bathrooms with underfloor heating and generous dressing rooms. The lodge is perfectly located for world-class trout fishing, kayaking, paragliding, golf, hiking, skiing, white-water rafting, horseback riding and cycling expeditions. Whether you are hovering in a helicopter over live volcanic areas, lunching in spectacular vineyards or alongside the magnificent Lake Taupo, the opportunities for adventure are endless.
There are 18 Junior Lodge Suites, a Lodge Suite, a four-bedroom Owner’s Cottage and the two-bedroom Alan Pye Cottage. The luxurious Junior Lodge Suites are simple, spacious and light with decadent bathrooms and dressing rooms and the feel of a real retreat with panoramic views of rushing water. The exclusive Huka Cottages are spectacular with both the Owner’s and Alan Pye Cottages enjoying their own private stunning infinity pool, spa pool, kitchen, living room and den. There are also six single Escort rooms, simple single rooms that can be used for any staff accompanying guests on their holiday or for children, they can be interconnected with Junior Lodge Suites.

Junior Lodge Suite
Every last detail required for guest comfort has been carefully considered, from the finest monogrammed bed linen, and feather pillows, to the freshly baked biscuits. French doors open onto the wooden terrace beyond and all 18 Junior Lodge Suites face the hypnotic deep turquoise green waters of the Waikato River. Its long journey from Lake Taupo takes it flowing past Huka Lodge to the full force of the famous Huka Falls beyond and then on to the sea. The bathrooms offer every indulgence as well as being spacious and light, with the most decadent deep bath, thirsty towels, heated floors, and twin basins. Dressing rooms are both large and generous in proportion.

Lodge Suite
The Lodge Suite consists of light, spacious, comfortable rooms. One with a super-king size bed, which can also be reconfigured into twin beds, and lounge area with writing desk. There is also a large walk-through dressing room as well as a beautifully detailed en suite bathroom including bath, shower, twin basins and under-floor heating. Mini-bar, with tea and coffee facilities is also available. Another connecting room offers a well-appointed lounge, with dining area. This features a cosy gas fireplace and boasts the same style of en suite bathroom as its companion room.





Owner's Cottage
The Owner’s Cottage sits on an elevated and sunny promontory above the spectacular Waikato River. Virtually completely hidden from view, this secluded retreat enjoys stunning views downstream to the mighty Huka Falls. Four superbly decorated spacious en suite guest rooms are anchored by a central living room, dining area, kitchen and den. The colour palette is deliberately muted with elegant use of soft cream and caramel hues for the walls and bleached oak wooden parquet floors throughout. This all contributes to an ambience of calm restful relaxation within the Cottage. The en suite rooms all have super-king size beds, comfortable chairs for lounging and the romance of a fireplace in your bedroom. Two of the guest suites face the river while the other two enjoy a beautiful private courtyard garden aspect. These gardens also feature one of the magnificent outdoor fireplaces that can be found tucked away within the environs of Huka Lodge.






Alan Pye Cottage
Alan Pye Cottage takes every advantage of a superb location and sits above lush rolling green lawns and manicured gardens on the banks of the Waikato River, where the powerful and hypnotic turquoise green waters surge downstream on their way to the Huka Falls. Whilst spacious and faultlessly generous in execution, the Alan Pye Cottage boasts a cosy and intimate atmosphere due largely to an extraordinary level of attention to detail, combined with a deliberately eclectic style of furnishing and interior decoration. Rustic antiques overlay with museum-quality Maori antiquities, wonderful paintings and textiles rich in texture, with the colour palette drawing together stunning combinations of deep teal, lime and turquoise for moments of bold punctuation.
Full country breakfast, pre-dinner drinks, canapés and a five-course gourmet dinner are included in the daily rate. Guests can choose to dine in over 20 romantic private dining venues, both indoor and outdoor, throughout the property. Drinks are set up in the Main Lodge room every evening as guests gather before dinner. Menus change daily and feature stunning local produce, and are are created by an executive chef who has previously cooked in Michelin-star restaurants. The cuisine at Huka Lodge features only the freshest of New Zealand produce and dining is table d’hote, although there are also a number of different private dining areas available – these range from the wine cellar, Library, Trophy Room, and Lodge terraces to dining alfresco within the grounds. The tradition of generous and fine hospitality is deeply embedded within the Huka Lodge philosophy and the quality of this bears testament to this commitment.

Huka Lodge Dining
The Main Lodge building draws guests like bees to honey. It is from here that having breakfasted well, guests either set off for adventure, or settle in a comfortable chair with a book beside a log fire. Come evening, candles are lit, lights dimmed and the drinks set out. Guests gather to make each other’s acquaintance, share stories of their day and enjoy the superb cuisine, prepared using the finest of ingredients and complemented by exceptional wines. Service is both solicitous and seamless, designed to anticipate.

The Wine Cellar
A spacious underground chamber across from the Main Lodge, lined with fine vintages, can seat 2-10 guests within the central chamber.

The facilities are extensive: there’s a heated outdoor pool and hot tubs, spa and gym, croquet lawn, and tennis and pétanque courts. Fly fishing rods and mountain bikes are free for guests’ use. And the grounds themselves are a glorious facility with secluded seating and contemplation spots liberally distributed.
Though many guests never choose to leave the park-like grounds, those that seek adventure beyond the gates are rarely disappointed. Panoramic scenery provides a backdrop to wonderful golf courses, aquatic adventures on Lake Taupo, including every possibility of landing a trophy-size rainbow trout, kayaking, rafting, hiking, horse riding, mountain biking and many other recreational pursuits. Kinloch Signature Golf Course
Approximately a 20-minute drive from Huka Lodge and is New Zealand’s only course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Kinloch Club was voted one of the Top 10 new golf courses in the world for 2007 by the prestigious U.S. Travel and Leisure Golf Magazine, making it the only course outside of North America to be included. The course rambles across a dramatically undulating landscape punctuated by exposed rock, with fairways contoured and conditioned for ground play.
