Matakauri Lodge

Spectacularly situated on Lake Wakatipu, Matakauri Lodge is a luxury alpine retreat offering stunning views from every angle of the Remarkable, Cecil and Walter Peak mountain ranges. Just seven minutes from Queenstown, Matakauri Lodge provides an alpine lakeside retreat amongst one of the world’s most serenely beautiful landscapes. The main lodge consists of a spacious lounge and dining and living areas, all with views of Lake Wakatipu. The lodge also offers a range of indoor and outdoor dining locations for guests, including superb private dining options, and an elegant meeting space with a business centre offering abundant natural light and views of the mountain ranges beyond.

Facilities include a full service spa, infinity swimming pool, and fully-equipped fitness centre, including sauna and a jacuzzi. Accommodation is offered in twelve luxurious guest suites and rooms.  Each suite offers a private porch, bedroom with sitting area and open fireplace, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom. Our entry level 5 star accommodation in Queenstown, the Lodge Room offers lovely views of the big three: The Remarkables, Cecil and Walter Peak.Located on the upper level of the main lodge, the Lodge Room is the smallest room on offer but has a cosy feel and stunning views due to its elevation. The Lodge Room is a great option for guests travelling with children as it offers an interconnecting option with a Deluxe Suite.36 sq. m. / 269 sq. ft.

“Trust the Chef” signature menu offers a shared dining experience, with dishes selected by the chef based on fresh produce and ingredients available on the day.

A The bijou bar is located in the light-filled lobby area and seats about four people, but the restaurant is where most quaffing and sipping goes on. Pre-dinner drinks are served from around 6pm in the upper lounge – a chance for guests to gather and swap views on the views. Matakauri stocks most local Central Otago wines (the house wine), a region that is renowned for producing award-winning Pinot Noir and setting new international benchmarks in quality. If in doubt, wine choices will be expertly guided in the dining room and bar, and your palate preferences will be recalled by staff the next time you ask for a drink.

Restaurant

Executive chef Dale Gartland, originally from Shrewsbury in England, is a proponent of maintaining balance and stylish simplicity in the Modern European fare he prepares at welcoming restaurant the Dining Room. He views Matakauri as an extension of a guest’s home, so you don’t have to eat off the menu and can order tailormade dishes if you fancy something different. With a menu that changes daily, there is already ample variety, but Dale will happily source New Zealand’s finest seafood or game on request. He works with a sous chef and pastry chef and the team not only shines at dinner; they will get your day off to an impressive start, too. Mouth-watering dishes include truffle-flavoured risotto, blue cod from the Foveaux Strait and fillet of Hereford beef
