ACTIVITIES:

The five-star InterContinental lies in the heart of Porto’s historic centre and is the gem in the city’s accommodation crown. As a converted monastery-cum-palace, the hotel exudes character, and when paired with the staff’s diligent hospitality, it offers an outstanding all-round experience. The hotel stands prominently at the end of Porto’s main avenue, Avenida dos Aliados, and is hence in the most central part of the city. The São Bento train station is just 100 metres away and the iconic Clérigos Tower is a three-minute walk. While the lively square can be a hive of activity well into the night, soundproofed windows block out most noise. The hotel’s neoclassical design is spectacular.
Old pictures of Porto adorn the walls of common areas and rooms, while a rotating exhibition of contemporary artwork decorates the bar and dining area. The hotel prides itself on exceptional service and staff are willing to go the extra mile to ensure guests have an enjoyable stay. From the moment you step through the door, porters, check-in staff and a concierge team are poised to provide a seamless welcome, and room service attendants, spa therapists and waitstaff are equally obliging. Facilities include a delightfully fragranced wellness centre where a range of massages are offered (the candle wax massage is highly recommended), as well as facial treatments and waxing services.
Like the rest of the hotel, the spacious rooms are well presented with simple yet elegant décor, such as heavy tasselled curtains, chandelier lamps and large embroidered rugs, and the overall guest experience is well considered. For instance, TVs show a personalised welcome message, wardrobes are fitted with automatic lights and padded hangers, bathrooms include a professional hairdryer and amenities kit, and the following day’s weather report is included in the turn down service. All bathrooms include a bathtub (most have a separate shower) and beds are either twins or king-sized with a choice of eight pillows.

Classic Rooms
Our spacious Deluxe rooms use contemporary designs to create an intimate and stylish environment. You can watch a movie on the LCD TV, or catch up with friends via complimentary WiFi. Each room has a view over Patio das Carosas, an enclosed garden that feels like a peaceful oasis in the city centre.

Executive Rooms
Our elegantly appointed Executive rooms offer a charming and sophisticated retreat in the heart of the city. Pour yourself a drink from the minibar and enjoy the views over Liberdade Square, or pamper yourself in the marble bathroom, which comes complete with a walk-in shower and separate bathtub.

Suites
Leave your concerns behind by booking an elegant Junior Suite. These chic, spacious suites feature a separate living room where you can unwind, and a lovely balcony with glorious views of the Avenida dos Aliados. Modern extras include a Nespresso coffee-maker, and exclusive Anne Semonin toiletries.
The hotel includes the classy Bar das Cardosas, which offers live music most nights of the week, and the Astória Restaurant, where we sampled a seasonal degustation with sommelier wine pairing. While flavour combinations worked better in some dishes more than others, each plate, such as boar tenderloin with wild mushrooms followed by a layered chocolate cake, demonstrated creative flair. The wines chosen to accompany each dish were excellent. Although the onsite restaurant is convenient, it’s an expensive option when compared to other dining options available in the city.

Astoria Restaurant
Astoria Restaurant’s sumptuous menu presents traditional Mediterranean and Portuguese cuisine with international touches. Our modern dishes preserve the taste and richness of classic cooking by using local, seasonal ingredients. On summer days, you can dine alfresco on the terrace.

Cardosas Bar
Cardosas Bar showcases superb cocktails and fabulous port wines in refined surrounds. The bar’s elegant decor is in the grand style of a traditional British library. Arrive for afternoon tea and you can sample a selection of pastries as you take in the magnificent view over the city centre.
With a privileged location in the heart of the city, Intercontinental Porto offers a set of facilities to make your experience memorable. The hotel features elegant and comfortable meeting rooms, with a palatial style, perfect for your special events such as wedding receptions, dinner parties, christenings or communions, with the capacity to host over 100 people. We highlight the Square meeting room, full of natural light and sophisticated décor – one of the most emblematic spaces of the city and the golden key to surprise your guests. The perfect place to celebrate special and unforgettable moments.
