This region of Portugal retains an authentic atmosphere and the miles of sandy beaches are still relatively untouched by the mass tourism of the south coast. The closest town, Sintra, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and makes for a wonderful day trip to discover the Moorish architecture and cobbled streets lined with cafes and small boutiques. Cascais and Lisbon are also within easy reach.
