ACTIVITIES:

Gorilla-Trekking

Singita Kwitonda Lodge provides a contemplative, nurturing space in which to appreciate the transformative experience of coming face to face with the forest’s gentle giants. For most guests, a gorilla trek is at the top of their list when they visit Rwanda and a stay at Singita Kwitonda Lodge allows them the privilege to encounter one of Africa’s most majestic and gentle creatures in the wild, while immersed in the beauty of their pristine natural habitat. Setting off early in the morning for the 7am briefing at Volcanoes National Park’s headquarters, a short drive from Singita Kwitonda Lodge, guests are matched with a guide before starting their hike into the dense cloud forest.

Golden Monkey Trekking

Golden monkey trekking is a rare and delightful experience, not to be missed. These primates are highly endangered and are only found in this part of the world, living in the Virunga mountain ranges. Encountering golden monkeys in the Volcanoes National Park is a highly immersive experience as trekkers are surrounded by up to one hundred monkeys foraging in the forest and jumping from tree to tree. The monkeys live in bamboo vegetation close to the base of the volcanoes so the hike to find them is on fairly flat terrain and the distance is not far, making this an activity that is easily accessible to most.

Hiking & Walking

Guests can explore the breathtaking Volcanoes National Park by foot, enjoying the guided walks and hikes in the different areas of this exceptional reserve. These excursions offer an opportunity to experience the unique vegetation, forest terrain and prodigious birdlife of the park.

Village Tours

A visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village in nearby Kinigi gives guests the special chance to spend time with exceptionally welcoming local communities and to experience their traditional lifestyle and culture. Ancient traditions of honour and hospitality run strong here, and anybody who takes the time to discover Rwandan culture for themselves will find a proud and unique people, very happy to welcome you into their lives and introduce you to their traditions.

Kigali City Tour

Nestled along picturesque hilltops, Kigali is a thriving African city immediately notable for its cleanliness, orderliness, and warm hospitality. Kigali, located in the geographic center of the country, is a great place to begin or end any Rwandan adventure. The capital city is vibrant and energetic, and its people are extremely welcoming. Here, travelers can enjoy a number of cultural activities including several award-winning museums, a burgeoning music scene and some of East Africa’s most memorable dining experiences.

Akarabo Nursery

The 178-acre piece of land on which Singita Kwitonda Lodge sits forms part of an ambitious undertaking by Singita and the Rwandan government to reforest and restore land, thereby increasing the habitat available to Rwanda’s endangered species. It is a plan which epitomises the sense of hope and optimism inherent in Rwanda’s people and is reflected in Singita’s commitment to conservation. The ultimate success of the programme will be an expanded range and increasing population of mountain gorillas in the park.

Farm-to-Table Garden

A spectacular on-site garden offers farm-to-table fresh produce for Singita Kwitonda Lodge’s guests to enjoy. Visitors are welcome to stroll through the garden and enjoy its sensory delights. The garden plays a key part in contributing to the sustainable operations of the lodge and guests can interact with Kwitonda staff who will educate them about the seasonal foods, allow them to select a few items and learn about the workings of the garden.
