Although Singapore is one of the most densely populated regions in the world, it is also one of the cleanest and greenest cities. It offers its visitors and residents four nature reserves and more than 300 parks and gardens, which cover nearly 10% of the city. One of the oldest parks is the Singapore Botanic Garden, which opened in 1859. It is home today to over 10,000 species of plants .
Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, is the first hotel on Orchard Road to design and build an interactive play space for children, catering to both hotel guests and non-hotel guests. Spanning over 1,872 square metres in total – 572 square metres indoors and another 1,300 square metres outside – the immersive and curated play space allows children to learn through play in a creative, self-directed and experiential environment, all while bonding with their parents.

The Line remains popular for its breakfast buffet, and Shang Palace for its Cantonese fare, but don’t miss the hotel’s newer dining concepts. The towering Lobby Lounge serves a Peranakan-inspired buffet to go with hawker fare prepared with recipes and sauces purchased from local markets (try the laksa by Katong Laksa, “bak chor mee” from Seng Kee, prawn noodle soup by Beach Road Prawn Mee and chilli crabs in deep-fried buns by Dragon Phoenix). Nami, on the 24th storey of the Tower Wing, serves sushi, sashimi and omakase by former Nadaman Tokyo veteran, chef Shigeo Akiba, who prides himself on dashi-based dishes like hamo (pike conger eel) stuffed with uni with Japanese pickling melon and junsai (watershield). The Waterfall serves an extensive range of reasonably prices pastas and pizzas. Instead of jostling with the public at The Line for breakfast, we recommend guests pay for the entry-level Horizon Club rooms for access to the excellent breakfast at the Horizon Club Lounge – think fresh fruits, pastries, Beurre D’Isigny butter as well as a decent hot food buffet including eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, nasi lemak and plain porridge.

Origin Grill
Origin Grill is inspired by the origin of flavours, travel adventures and Singapore’s illustrious history of bountiful trade, colonial charm and tropical splendour. The restaurant showcases fresh, authentic flavours from curated, unique and quality-driven ingredients. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Chef de Cuisine, Heidi Flanagan, crafts courses from land and sea. Take your taste buds on an exquisite adventure. Shang Palace
A signature dining destination at Shangri-La hotels, Shang Palace is the ultimate establishment for Cantonese fine dining. Helming the kitchen is Executive Chef, Mok Kit Keung, who previously helmed the 2-Michelin-starred Shang Palace in Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong. Chef Mok uses traditional techniques with a contemporary twist. His signatures include sautéed boneless chicken wings skewered with abalone and mushroom, steamed lobster and bird’s nest with crab coral sauce, and oven-baked cod fillet with egg white and dried scallops. The theme for its interior design is dining in a Chinese garden. Exquisite floral motifs take centre stage on the red glass ceiling and are also hand-painted on the walls.

The Line
Featuring 16 live kitchens, The Line offers a sumptuous international buffet that is feted as one of the best in Singapore. Dishes are freshly prepared a la minute, enabling diners to watch the chefs in action. Highlights include the Crustacean Bar, with its appetizing display of fresh seafood such as oysters, prawns and crabs that changes based on what is available. There are also the Tandoori Ovens, from which spiced meats and breads unique to the North and South Indian cuisines are prepared. Not to be missed is the Dim Sum Kitchen, where steaming baskets of freshly made Dim Sum await guests who enjoy this traditional Cantonese food. Round off the meal by stopping at the Dessert Counter with its delectable spread of cakes, crepes and other sweet treats. Designed by internationally acclaimed interior designer, Adam D Tihany, and spanning 1,350 square metres, The Line features indoor and al fresco dining options. The latter offers views of the hotel’s lush gardens and free-form swimming pool. True to the restaurant’s name, its concept symbolizes the thread of continuity in nature, family, culture and life. A bright orange light box traversing the ceiling and floor anchors the interiors, accented with Schonwald chinaware designed by Tihany himself.

Waterfall Ristorante Italiano
The freshest seafood, hand-me-down recipes and homemade pastas are what to expect at Waterfall Ristorante Italiano. Here, Southern Italian classics are served up with seasonal produce and sprinkles of la dolce vita. These are best paired with a bottle from the extensive wine collection that takes diners on a journey across Italy. Savour the house wine, Nero d’Avola, the most important red wine grape in Sicily, in the unique Boccalino. For coffee lovers, baristas are trained to brew the perfect Illy cuppa throughout the day. Situated in the Garden Wing, the restaurant reflects its ambience with greenery and fresh flowers. The colonial-era style interiors are designed like a home. The living room is at the front, with more intimate seating arrangements in the middle. In the rear are the communal tables. The gardens and free-form swimming pool of the hotel are visible from the inside, thanks to views that open out on 3 sides of the restaurant. For intimate dining, our Private Dining Room is available up to 12 persons.

Nami
Embark on a gastronomical odyssey of NAMI Restaurant & Bar and enjoy a panoramic city views from level 24 of the Tower Wing. This is paired with a buffet selection of classic European favourites, such as roast beef and warm scones, Asian delights including sushi, sashimi and laksa, as well as handcrafted pastries and dessert.

Origin Bar
Complementing its interior design that celebrates train travel, the concept at Origin Bar centres around a journey of discovery of the 5 key districts of Singapore, the hotel’s hometown: Orchard Road, Chinatown, Little India, Boat Quay and Marina Bay. Inspired cocktails are hand-crafted by a team of young mixologists with a fierce passion for what they do. For instance, the cocktail inspired by Orchard Road traces its history as a plantation and, more importantly, references the original home of the Shangri-La brand. Expect a medley of fruits, flowers and spices in the bouquet of your glass. The streets of Chinatown have motivated the team to create a beverage using traditional Chinese medicine ingredients and balancing Yin with Yang, all in a nod to the influence of Chinese culture on the country.

The Lobby Lounge
An enticing array of local heritage hawker dishes, available at breakfast, lunch and dinner and made with fine quality ingredients, is what to expect at The Lobby Lounge. These include Beef Rendang, Prawn Noodle Soup, Bak Chor Mee, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Katong Laksa, and Chilli Crab with Mantou. Come by for breakfast, too, where local favourites such Soft Boiled Egg with Kaya Toast, Roti Prata and Carrot Cake are on the menu. Each dish has been carefully selected with the help of popular local food writer, Dr. Leslie Tay, who helms the blog ieatishootipost.sg, and also the help of Shangri-La’s culinary team, in collaboration with the experienced hawkers of each dish. Afternoon tea features local savoury pastries and sweet deserts on a 3-tier set, served on pretty Peranakan crockery.

Shophouse By Shangri La
Located in the lobby, ShopHouse by Shangri-La is a grab-and-go retail concept offering a variety of pastry and breads; grab-and-go items such as homemade sandwiches, salads and snacks and retail items such as gourmet sauces and baked goods. A highlight is the artisanal 3D cakes created by the skilled pastry team. From cartoon characters to branded handbags, and everything in between, the chefs can craft any desired design after a personal consultation with the guest. Chef Herve Potus is the master behind the lovely pastry, cakes and breads in our hotel. In his 33 years of pastry creation, Chef Herve places emphasis on the taste and utilization of quality products, and he loves experimenting with complex and flavourful combinations. His absolute favourite pastry? A thick slice of French apple tart!
