Singapore is known as one of the cleanest and safest cities in the world and one of the best places to do business. But did you know that Singapore is also a fun place to be, with many festivals and events throughout the year?
Although Singapore is one of the most densely populated regions in the world, it is also one of the cleanest and greenest cities. It offers its visitors and residents four nature reserves and more than 300 parks and gardens, which cover nearly 10% of the city. One of the oldest parks is the Singapore Botanic Garden, which opened in 1859. It is home today to over 10,000 species of plants .
The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore is located in the cultural heart of Singapore, with esteemed museums and galleries in walking distance. The Asian Civilisations Museum houses the region’s most comprehensive collection of precious Pan-Asian artefacts, showcasing the rich history, cultures and religions of Southeast Asia, China, the Asian subcontinent and Islamic West Asia. The National Gallery Singapore houses the largest public collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian art from the 19th century to present day, with over 8,000 artworks sprawling over two national monuments – the former Supreme Court Building and City Hall.
The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore is the star of a bigger property development that includes a theatre, a shopping mall and a condominium. The hotel is the result of the careful restoration and renovation of two heritage properties situated in the heart of the Central Business District. Capitol Kempinski is part of a huge lifestyle destination that encompasses a high-end residential apartment, a luxury hotel, a shopping mall and a theatre. The four-storey hotel occupies the low-rise former space of The Capitol Building (circa 1933) and Stamford House (circa 1904).
Its architecture by Pritzker Prize Architecture Laureate, Richard Meier, retains the glorious colonial Art Deco and Victorian renaissance façade of its predecessors while its insides have been carefully restored to reveal the homey grandeur of a residence, albeit a luxurious one, with Italian marble flooring, Travertine limestone columns and hand-cut rock crystal chandeliers. The facilities available are positively boutique, befitting the intimate nature of the property. The hotel comes with a spa with just three treatment rooms (try the Singapore Massage and the Lifting Facial by the well-trained therapist), a smallish gym with 24-hour access and an outdoor salt-water relaxation pool.
There are eight room categories and a total of 157 guestrooms and suites laid out in 50 different unique configurations, each featuring original Chengal wood flooring, high-corniced ceilings (rooms in the former Stamford House wing feature taller ceilings), high-gloss piano rosewood lacquered-finished table-tops and wardrobes with silver nickel decorative features and polished Italian marble coffee tables. Despite the grand windows available in most rooms, there are hardly any views to boast of. On the plus side, the rooms are huge by Singapore standards and a deep-soaking bathtub is available in most, but not all, rooms. Standard room offerings include a Nespresso machine, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages from the minibar, a Sonos sound system, a cable-free iPhone charging base and luxurious bath amenities from Tuscan Soul (Salvatore Ferragamo).
