Each boasts a separate bedroom, large lounge and dining area with Nespresso coffee machines. Some have balconies or a guest cloakroom. Each is luxuriously appointed and individually designed, and some enjoy a walk-in dressing room. Some of these suites have a kitchenette and a wet bar, while all feature marble bathrooms with a walk-in dressing room.


Garden Cottage Suites
A row of restored historic cottages make up some of the finest holiday accommodation South Africa has to offer. Each sits behind a scented rose garden, enclosed by a picket fence. Interiors boast toile wallpaper, Venetian mirrors and oversized couches. They’re an idyllic romantic hideaway for honeymooners or couples.


Presidential Suite
Savour true Cape Town luxury. An entrance hall, plush bedroom, dining area, large lounge, wet bar and balcony with loungers make up this spacious haven. Leading interior designer Graham Viney has decorated the Presidential Suite in soft hues and luxurious silk fabrics. It features 1930s light fittings with baccarat crystal and an original desk dating from when the hotel opened in 1899.

Accessible Suites
The hotel offers two purpose-built, fully-accessible Junior Suites. Bathrooms have wider doors, a low sink, a bath with handrails and an open-access shower.

Lord Nelson Restaurant
The prominent arches and rich oak panels of the Sherwood Room, originally called the Jubilee Room, are the focal architectural feature of the hotel’s original dining room, whilst the vibrant marigold curtains and the soft yellow ripples on the carpet add a “pop” of colour to brighten up the interiors, reflecting happy summer days. Looking up, the story of the South African colonies of the British empire adorn the pressed ceilings, and do note the minstrel gallery upstairs too. The wooden chairs were the old deck chairs used by the first-class passengers on the Union-Castle Shipping Lines.





Oasis Bistro
At the Oasis Bistro, guests can enjoy wholesome breakfasts and relaxed al fresco lunches overlooking the pool and lush garden. The restaurant offers an extensive Mediterranean-inspired buffet as well as an à la carte bistro-style menu with an impressive selection of grilled meats and roasted line fish. Guests can also look forward to daily specials harvested from local markets.
The fresh and colourful buffet includes a wide range of seasonal salads, home cured and home smoked charcuterie, fresh seafood and shellfish platters and a variety of South African cheeses. All sauces, tapenades and pates are made in-house and the exceptional breads are baked in The Nellie’s kitchens. The selection of hot dishes changes daily and could include anything from Roast Beef with assorted baby root vegetable to Cape Malay Chicken Curry.



The Lounge
Morning, Afternoon and Evening Tea and light lunches are served daily in The Lounge. Afternoon Tea at the hotel is a true institution. Make sure your trip to the Mother City is complete and experience the best afternoon tea Cape Town has to offer. Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches filled with rare roast beef and rocket, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise or cucumber. Follow with a delectable dark chocolate cake, lemon meringue and freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves.
Adding a special local flavour is a typical South African milk tart, called “melktert” in Afrikaans. During the winter months you can also enjoy a selection of warm treats. Expect mushroom empanadas, tomato tarts and chicken pies. The signature Mount Nelson Tea has been expertly blended from six teas: Darjeeling, Kenya, Assam, Keemun, Yunnan, Ceylon, and rose petals from our garden. In addition, we offer an array of leaf and flowering teas.
Chefs Table
Chef’s Table restaurant located in Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel’s kitchens, a distinctively different gourmet experience. Located in an alcove in the heart of the hotel kitchens where you will be able to observe the sizzling action of a working kitchen catering for a busy hotel. An over-sized mirror positioned on one of the walls ensures that every guest will have a view of chefs in action, from preparation of the ingredients right up to the final touches on the plate. Our chefs will be on hand to share cooking tips, recipes, anecdotes and the inspiration behind each dish.




Planet Bar
Cool, chic, yet timelessly elegant, Planet Bar throngs all year round with well-heeled Capetonians sipping sundowner cocktails or pre-dinner champagne. The bar’s stylish celestial décor, quirky touches and comfy couches create a relaxing ambience, whether you’re people-watching from the terrace in the summer or curling up by the fire with a glass of red in the winter. Planet Bar offers an extensive cocktail menu, a wide selection of champagnes and wines, and an assortment of light menus and canapés.
Good facilities for children, complimentary day-use rooms for early arrivals and late departures, complimentary 24-hour internet access in the business centre and a complimentary shuttle service four times a day between the hotel and Waterfront. The Librisa Spa is one of Cape Town’s leading day spas. Pool
There are two heated outdoor swimming pools, available exclusively for guests staying at the hotel. The Oasis Pool, one of the largest heated pools in South Africa, is ideal for families. Poolside service available from October to April and a swimming coach can be arranged on request. The Cottage Pool is located in a secluded spot and reserved for over-16s. Poolside service available from November to March.
