ACTIVITIES:
Game drives at Londolozi are taken by professional, passionate and knowledgeable rangers and trackers, who amongst them have a wealth of 350 years of experience. With over 16 000 hectares of traversing wilderness, no two game drives are ever the same. Trackers sit up at the front of the Land Rover looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers drive with astonishing skill into ravines and through thicket in pursuit of elusive animals, simultaneously wowing guests with their outstanding knowledge and unforgettable stories. Many of the rangers and trackers at Londolozi grew up living off the land in these parts and therefore have an unmatched knowledge of both the area and the elements of nature within this wilderness wonderland. Londolozi boasts two of South Africa’s only 17 master trackers, which only adds to the excellence of the team and the experience they are able to deliver.
Suitable for the beautiful balmy bushveld days in May, June and July, there is nothing like walking in a winter wilderness. Drift down a game trail into a dry riverbed. Feel the crisp morning rhythm of Africa with each step on the winding path as you let nature captivate you in her essence. There is no vehicle, no noise and no distractions. This is when nature speaks to you.
Our children’s programme is uniquely tailored for each child, many of whom are budding junior game rangers. Our approach is based on a personal interaction with each child and is energetic and flexible. We regard nature as the great educator and with no set routines we allow the child to discover the world of the outdoor classroom which surrounds them. Nature sets the agenda and we enable these young people to discover something of themselves.
The birdlife at Londolozi represents a magic of diversity in perpetual motion and offers the visitor an entirely new frontier in wilderness engagement. A wide array of sunbirds seeking nectar from the flowering aloes is winter’s gift to the discerning birder, not to mention the other 450 species which abound in these landscapes. Many fine ornithologist guides reside at Londolozi.
The ancient art of tracking has been uniquely preserved at Londolozi. The combined wisdom of the Londolozi tracking team spans over 200 years of tracking experience. Our guests, during winter, are privileged to be able to witness this ancient art. On foot in search of the big cats, as well as Rhino and Buffalo…downwind…in silence…not moving a muscle and in very close proximity, is an experience which demands all your attention and which leaves you with indelible memories. Winter is the perfect time to pursue Africa’s most alluring wildlife; whilst in the presence of a master tracker applying an ancient art, miles from any Land Rove
Have you ever been introduced to the wonderment of the great universe? Latest pictures from the Hubble telescope open up an entirely new world of discovery which tells us of endless space beyond comprehension. At Londolozi the rangers are trained to take you on a mystical late night journey ofreflection and introspection. On a cold, clear winter’s night, looking at the stars whilst holding a warm mug of hot chocolate makes for a truly memorable evening.
Campfires, storytelling, red wine and good company are the hallmark of any winter safari. There is no reason to rush back to camp for breakfast when you can savor gourmet salmon and scrambled eggs with your feet in the sand on the banks of a river enjoying a balmy winter’s morning

Set amongst the dappled shade of 500-year-old ebony trees, Pioneer Camp is the culmination of five decades of design experience in the safari industry. Pioneer Camp’s three interconnected luxury suites and generous bush homestead makes this the most secluded and flexible of the Londolozi camps. The private suites have superb river views and are perfect for honeymoons and secluded getaways. The camp can easily be converted into a bush homestead for private multi-generational family groups of between 6 and 12 people. The inspiration for the refreshed look was to weave the Ralph Lauren style into the original safari homestead resulting in the classic layering of signature textures and iconic features which reflect an African heart. Pioneer camp carries all the elements of authentic bushveld living, clean lines, simple timeless and classic elegance with a touch of crystal.
The gardens reflect generations of Varty women who have worked with nature to create indigenous and meditative spaces packed with impala lilies, aloes, plumbagoes and wild figs that attract butterflies, sunbirds, and- among others- the paradise fly catcher – an African favourite. Now boasting a refreshed ‘explorer lounge’, interactive kitchen, lookout deck, breakfast balcony and full length lap pool, Pioneer Camp is the most intimate family-run safari homestead in Southern Africa. Every touch and feature in Pioneer Camp is deeply personal. It is an ideal setting for a new generation of sophisticated travellers in search of the perfect combination of unstructured freedom and top-end experiential and personal luxury.
Each suite has an elegant bedroom/sitting room with fireplace and a luxurious bathroom combining a classic Victorian feel with modern accents in marble and chrome. Your private veranda with plunge pool and sala is the perfect spot to relax with a book, or just enjoy the smells, sights and sounds of the surrounding bush. However linking glass sky walkways convert these individual suites into inter-connected family units if you are taking it as a family bush home.
