ACTIVITIES:
Captivated by Africa’s landscapes, people and wildlife, travellers have always been inspired to make a visual record of the far flung savannah plains and dramatic hoof-and-claw encounters they witness here. Early adventurers painted what they saw; modern visitors capture the moment through the lens of a camera, often with passion and expertise to rival a professional photographer. Two safaris per day – morning and afternoon/evening – 3 hours each with a morning and afternoon coffee/sundowner stop.
A walking safari with your rangers is optional and takes place after breakfast, with your ranger. African safaris are changing. As surely as the camera has replaced the hunting rifle, the growing popularity of guided walking safaris has revolutionised traditional game viewing activities. Away from the confines of a vehicle, travellers are now venturing into big game country on foot for anything from an hour’s stroll to several days, spending starlit nights at remote lodges or tented camps.
Unseen, unexpected, unbelievable. That’s how guests describe the Starlight Bush Dinner experience at Sabi Sabi. In a secluded clearing open to the surrounding bush, under magnificent night skies a beautiful bush dinner is set up with crisp linen, crystal and silver. Delicate fairy lights mirror the brilliant stars and table décor reflects elegance with an African twist. Attentive, unobtrusive staff serve fine wines and gourmet food freshly prepared by the executive chef using fresh local produce with international influences. Local singing, dancing or drumming groups provide background entertainment, blending with the sounds of the unfenced bushveld. A memorable bush dinner is the perfect ending to a thrilling evening safari.
We offer a Community Tour, available to Sabi Sabi guests after breakfast each day. This is to be pre-booked at an additional charge, and these funds are invested back into the community. The tour focuses on an authentic experience, and you will have the chance to view life from the perspective of our staff, as the majority of our staff are from the local communities of Lillydale, Justicia and Huntington.
Ballooning takes place at sunrise, which means a pre-dawn wake up with steaming coffee and a chilly drive to the launch. The sense of excitement ripples through you as the great balloons slowly fill with hot air, rising up ponderously above their tethered baskets. Take-off is a noisy, bumpy affair, which adds to the thrill and enhances the sudden serenity when you reach cruising altitude. The noise of the heating flame punctuates the quiet along with the soft whistle of air currents and occasional ‘ooohs’ from your fellow adventurers. Wrap up warmly – it’s cold up there!
We’re proud to support trekking tourism that contributes directly to protecting rainforest habitats and conserving both mountain gorillas and western lowland gorillas. Thanks to income derived directly from tourism, the mountain gorilla population has stabilised, which gives us hope for the future of western lowland gorillas now that tourism has started in their Congo rainforest.

Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge is set in the heart of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve overlooking a waterhole where animals come regularly to drink.
