ACTIVITIES:

Located in one of the Valley’s remotest haciendas, explora Valle Sagrado has views to the mountains that, some time ago, were part of the Inca Empire, and preserves pieces of history going back more than 400 years. The hotel is surrounded by Inca terraces and walls and our Casa de Baños Pumacahua Bath House, where the hotel Spa is located, is a 17th-century colonial mansion that belonged to a Peruvian Independence hero. Located between Cusco and Machu Picchu at an altitude of 600 meters (2.000 feet) below the ancient Inca capital city, explora Valle Sagrado offers visitors an in-depth exploration experience from a base hotel immersed in the history of the Incas.
explora Valle Sagrado was designed as a headquarter from where to explore a remote and great destination: Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. All our programs include accommodations, transfers, meals and beverages, and a selection of more than 40 explorations developed by our outdoor team. Our explorations take travelers through the colonial history of Cusco and the architectural magnificence of the Incas in Machu Picchu, isolated villages, archaeological sites such as Ollantaytambo, Moray, Chinchero and Pisac, to Andean pampas and mountains or Apus, considered by locals as guardians of people and nature.
The 44 spacious standard rooms and 6 larger suites are coolly designed, all in wood, with dynamic angles and bold latticework. They are airy, high-ceilinged and clutter-free, with plenty of light streaming in through panoramic windows. There are separate bathrooms and shower/whirpool tub rooms with two sinks outside. There are lots of storage and hanging spaces for hiking gear and smarter dinner clothes. The beds are vast, and there’s ample lounge space and a good desk.
Rooms in explora Valle Sagrado combine simplicity and comfort to ensure that our travelers get a good night rest after a day of exploration. With views to the cornfields and the mountains, the rooms are lined in wood and have a welcoming decoration, thus being a unique setting to disconnect and enjoy the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

The gastronomic experience in explora Valle Sagrado was developed exclusively by the renowned Peruvian chef Virgilio Martínez, owner of the sixth best restaurant in the world, according to The World’s Best Restaurants 2019 ranking. Our cuisine is inspired by the Andes and its diversity of products, ingredients and traditions. Through it, we want each of our travelers to deeply connect with the territory we inhabit and live a unique gastronomic experience in the Valley.

Restaurant
Peruvian chef Virgilio Martínez, owner of the sixth best restaurant in the world –according to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 ranking– has recently designed the new menu for explora Valle Sagrado. A total gastronomic renovation, both in our restaurant and in the explorations, using Andean ingredients from the simplest to the most elaborate that result in preparations with an identity that honors Andean cooking.
Virgilio Martínez inspired himself in the biodiversity of the Sacred Valley, its history, and the traits of the people who live there, developing a unique menu that unveils the magic of the place in each bite or taste of his food. With natural and organic preparations, the menu seamlessly brings the land to the travelers’ table, both in the hotel and during the explorations, where unparalleled outdoor meals are paired with a carefully thought selection of wines and beverages.
As with other Explora hotels, this is a full-service resort hotel, with an adventure-oriented theme. Guests generally come for a minimum of three nights’ on a full-board basis and are offered a daily menu of activities. The emphasis is on active outings, from easy strolls through agricultural areas and riverside bike rides to full-day hikes up to 4000-metre-plus mountains. Guides are multilingual, expert and very friendly. At the lodge itself, there’s a library, shop, huge communal areas, and a smart bar.
