The last word in opulent stateliness, the Palace makes no attempts to disguise its roots as a former Ritz. Bedrooms are more restrained, with a subtly neo-classical feel. Eating and drinking options cover most needs and budgets, with the Caelis restaurant and Bluesman cocktail bar attracting as many locals as guests.A couple of blocks from the Passeig de Gràcia, the Palace is great for upmarket shopping and some of Barcelona’s best examples of Modernista architecture, but less well situated for many of the traditional sights, the Old City or the beach. Cabs are plentiful, however, and metro and bus stops are not far away. Sitting on the corner of two busy streets, it’s too noisy to throw your windows open, but rooms are well soundproofed otherwise.
Dazzling opulence greets you from around every corner, and the legacy of a previous incarnation as a Ritz is still evident in the thick swirly carpets and luxurious drapes, gathered up with silk ropes. The ‘Hall’, which serves as both lobby and bar, is a riot of Versailles-style ornate furniture, oriental vases, hand-painted wallpaper and gilt clocks, and the breakfast room, covered in winter, goes for a monochromatic elegance, with oversized iron street lamps, Greek statues, a Berber tent surrounding the kitchen, and a small garden at one end.
El Palace Hotel Barcelona has 120 guest rooms fully-equipped with the latest technology. All decorated with the elegant and historical style of our classic luxury.
Josephine Baker Suite
When Josephine Baker visited Barcelona, this was her home. There was no other hotel in the city that offered the luxury, good taste and sophistication of El Palace. The star of the Charleston, jazz and the big screen, who had won over an admiring audience with her talent and beauty, triggered great expectation in Barcelona whenever she performed in the hotel’s Parrilla lounge, bringing together an elegant, refined and varied audience, who came to El Palace hoping to meet the great diva of the time.
Carlos Ruiz Zafon Suite
The history of El Palace is closely linked to the history of Barcelona and its society. A unique hotel in the city, which has been mentioned in countlessliterary quotes over generations. One of them, which we keep lovingly in our memory chest, are the mentions that the award-winning writer Carlos Ruiz Zafón devotes to the hotel in his most emblematic novels. We are convinced that, like in a novel, this suite will allow you to travel in time.
Joan Miró was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and of surrealism. More famous for his paintings, his artwork also encompassed other disciplines, such as pottery, engraving, lithography and sculpture, with a very personal style that reflected his concerns. In the early twentieth century, only a few years before the doors of the Ritz opened, he joined the Barcelona School of Fine Arts. It was here that he first came into contact with sculpture and was enticed by it over the years until his own sculptural work began to gain significant importance in the sixties.
El Palace Suite Ronnie Wood
Can you imagine staying in the same suite as Ronnie Wood? When the legendary guitarist of the Rolling Stones visited Barcelona, he stayed on the sixth floor of El Palace, the hotel’s highest suite. We have experienced many magical times with him, such as the day when he offered an unforgettable jam session in the Bluesman, to the surprise and admiration of those present. The Ronnie Wood suite is totally different to the other suites, as it has been designed in line with the artist’s proposals: shades of purple and art deco style. Staying in this suite is like being one step closer to this great music and rock legend.

The pride of the hotel is the Caelis restaurant, whose chef Romain Fornell won his first Michelin star aged 24. The vast, hushed and carpeted dining room sees some playful creations that include egg with a gelée of jamón ibérico and creamed potato, served in its shell, and a dessert ‘explosion’, where the entire table is – literally – painted, sprinkled and pelted with all manner of sweet delights. The 19 brasserie is open for more casual hotel-type fare and tapas, as is the Winter Garden on the rooftop. Both function as a bar, or there is the wonderfully cosy Bluesman bar downstairs, presided over by the eponymous painting created and donated by friend of the manager Ronnie Wood.
Jardín Diana Restaurant
Enjoy a selection of signature tapas and cocktails with the best views of Barcelona On the gastronomical side, the cuisine of the Jardín Diana Restaurant delights us with a menu proposal based on the gourmet products with local flavors, combining culinary traditions, innovation and creativity. The offer changes between autumn-winter season and spring-summer season. From November to April, we the Jardín Diana offers two tasting menus with a Mediterranean base: Winter Menu and Diana Menu, based on seasonal products and elaborated with haute cuisine sophistication ideal to enjoy with the best wine pairings.
Bluesman Cocktail Bar
British tradition is alive and well at El Palace. The luxurious hardwood fittings make for welcoming, cozy surroundings at the Bluesman. A unique spot where you can sip on a cocktail while enjoying live music.
A properly old-school concierge assures discreet and efficient service – this was, after all, the place where Dalí famously had a horse sent up to his room. More prosaically, he can get you tickets for a Barça game, send a fax (no, really) and arrange your onward travel. If you’d rather manage your own affairs there’s a business centre with three computers and a printer.
At the recently-opened Mayan Luxury Spa at El Palace Hotel, guests can enjoy Mayan-inspired spa treatments incorporating the French Anne Sémonin line. Therapists execute a wide array of massages, facials and body wraps, along with unique servic like the Mayan Signature Caribbean Seashells and Silk Ritual (a silk body wrap followed by a seashell massage) and the Mayan Luxury Signature Ritual (a massage with hot herbal sachets and essential oils.) El Palace is also the first hotel in Europe to provide its guests with a traditonal Temazcal sauna, with heated volcanic stones releasing aromatic medicinal herbs. The fitness center offers state-of-the-art cardio and weight equipment.
A 14-metre pool on the roof is just about long enough to swim in, and there is a Mayan-themed spa downstairs with six treatment rooms, specialising in volcanic stone treatments.
