The Gran Hotel Miramar Resort and Spa is located in the La Caleta area, between Paseo de Reding avenue and the sea front, just five minutes from the city`s top museums, including the Picasso, Carmen Thyssen, Centre Pompidou and Hermitage. With the principal entrance facing the Mediterranean Sea, it offers marvelous views over the Bay of Malaga. Considered the masterpiece of architect F. Guerrero Strachan`s work, it took five years to complete, finally being opened in 1926 by King Alfonso XIII under the name Hotel Principe de Asturias.

The 200 rooms and suites feature different décor on each floor, with mouldings providing a nod to the hotel’s original style. The Moorish details in the Nazarí rooms are most interesting and I loved the Mediterranean ones where a white backdrop is pepped up with starfish designs on the headboards and coral patterns on the bedspreads. Note that only a quarter of the rooms face the sea. Some of these have gorgeous balconies with marble balustrades definitely the most covetable. Bathrooms have rain showers and separate baths. Products are Hermès.
