ACTIVITIES:
Staying at the Grand Hôtel makes it easy to enjoy Stockholm. Literally in the heart of the city, you have a handful of the city’s most exquisite attractions right at your feet. On one side you will find the Royal Palace and the Old Town, whilst on the other the exclusive Strandvägen Boulevard and the Royal Game Park. The Opera House, National Museum, Royal National Theatre and Museum of Modern Art are all a stone’s throw away, as are Stockholm’s best shopping streets and choice of nightclubs, bars and restaurants. In fact, Grand Hôtel’s own restaurants: the Cadier Bar, the Veranda and Mathias Dahlgren, are among the top dining establishments in town. Whether you are venturing in the vicinity of Grand Hôtel or Stockholm at large, we want you to enjoy our beautiful town to the fullest.
Take a walk or catch a tram along Strandvägen to the Royal Djurgården national city park, a calm island oasis close to the city centre and home to several of the city’s top museums and attractions. Here, a visit to Junibacken is a must when travelling with children. Indeed this interactive storybook world of Astrid Lindgren is truly a delightful place to visit for anyone – young or old – who has read Pippi Longstocking, Emil in Lönnebergas, or stories by other Nordic children’s writers such as the Moomin novels by Tove Jansson.
At lunch time, stroll across the park for a bite to eat in the sun at Villa Godthem. Originally the home of legendary opera singer Carl Johan Uddman, this beautiful old villa with its lush garden has served as a restaurant since 1897, nowadays with updated versions of Swedish classics on the menu. The restaurant’s signature dish is the plank steak or fish, cooked on oak planks with a thin layer of virgin white cedar wood to enhance the flavour.
After lunch, head over to the Gröna Lund amusement park, for entertainment and attractions for the whole family, from roller-coasters, a fun house and merry-go-rounds to the highest carrousel in the world. With roots dating back to 1880s, the park is a true piece of Stockholm history. If the family is still feeling peckish after all the candy floss and hotdogs, then head back to the Grand Hôtel for an early evening hamburger at the Cadier Bar.
Hop on a ferry at Nybrokajen for a scenic boat trip to Arkipelag, an international venue for art and good food, privately funded by the founders of Babybjörn. Beautifully set on Värmdö in the Stockholm Archipelago, it is just 20 minutes from the city centre. Take in the exhibition and eat a delectable lunch on-site, inside or out, with magnificent sea views as your backdrop. Arkipelag’s menu takes inspiration from the current exhibition and is sourced from local, ecological producers.
After lunch, enjoy the boat ride back to Nybrokajen and then stroll over to the Hallywyl Museum, the former home of Count and Countess Walther and Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, and today one of Stockholm’s most eccentric and engaging cultural Institutions. This palatial residence was built as a winter home for the immensely rich couple, completed in 1898. Sip a drink in the exquisite inner courtyard, while admiring the fine architecture and clientele.
Eat dinner at Konstnärsbaren (The artists’ bar), or KB as it is known by the locals. Founded in 1931, the restaurant is located just around the corner from Sweden’s main stage, the Royal Dramatic Theatre, and various other cultural institutions. A favourite watering hole of the cultural elite, KB is also a stronghold of Swedish home cooking. Still decorated with the original art work and furniture, there are some real gems to be seen – ask to see the private dining room upstairs before you leave.

The Grand Hôtel has been home to celebrities, high-profile events and everyday bon-vivants since 1874. Occupying an enviable spot on the Stockholm waterfront, the hotel overlooks the Royal Palace and Old Town. This iconic property offers spectacular rooms and suites blending elements of the hotel’s rich legacy with modern luxury. The hotel also boasts a state-of-the-art spa & fitness club, with saunas and dipping pools. The Grand Hôtel’s true hallmark, however, is impeccable service, providing a bespoke approach that caters to the guests’ every whim.
The Grand Hotel’s idyllic waterfront location, next to the National Museum, offers stunning panoramic views of the city and most notably the Royal Palace and the old-town island, Gamla Stan. Stockholm’s most interesting sights, not to mention fabulous designer shopping are also all within an easy walking distance making the hotel a perfect place to stay for a weekend of exploring the beautiful city. The Grand has a fantastic variety of dining options to choose from. The Veranda restaurant offers Swedish and International fare and is the only Swedish restaurant to serve a traditional Smörgåsbord year round. The huge glass windows allow for uninterrupted views across the water that tempt you with the city’s sights while you enjoy the delicious buffet breakfast.

Or book a table for our delicious buffets and classic smorgasbord, served with the hotel’s very own snaps, Grand Aquavit 1874.

Mathias Dahlgren
A visit to Mathias Dahlgren is a gastronomic event for those interested in exclusive simplicity in a relaxed, comfortable environment with a friendly atmosphere. My philosophy: With a Swedish identity on a regional platform, I create my cuisine, open for local as well as global ingredients and influences. A cuisine based on natural produce and natural taste – the natural cuisine.

Terrace
Sit outside at Terrasen and savour Mediterranean-inspired dishes or sip a glass of wine, while enjoying the view of the Royal Palace and the waterfront. In sea blue and raspberry red, framed by lush citrus and olive trees, our new summer oasis is elegant yet relaxed.

The Grand Café
In one of the small buildings on the quay in front of the hotel, you’ll find the Grand Café. Besides coffee, the menu includes delicious salads and sandwiches from our kitchen and desserts straight from our patisserie. Here you can take a seat in the sun, feasting your eyes on the waterfront, passing boats and the Royal Palace.

Wine Cellar
Sweden’s most comprehensive wine cellar offers Mouton Rothschild from the year the hotel was opened, and Pol Roger, the hotel’s house Champagne, from 1914. Among the 2,400 different labels, the emphasis lies in the classic wine districts of Europe. We’ve also selected the best of new world experiences. Host a wine tasting event surrounded by 18,000 bottles. Questions? Get in touch with our head sommelier Fredrik Lindfors.
Make sure to visit the Nordic Spa & Fitness inspired by the Stockholm archipelago, including a sauna with the smell of pinewood, refreshing cold and warm baths and luxurious treatments. Although small in size, a calm atmosphere remains. There is also a well-equipped gym. For extra privacy book in the spa suites complete with a massage room, bath and sauna.

Pool
There are numerous treatment rooms, a swimming pool and several saunas and steam rooms and refreshingly icy plunge pools.
Spa
How can we make your day a perfect one? Enjoy a classic Swedish massage, delight in a beauty treatment, be challenged by our personal trainers, visit our doctor of traditional Chinese medicine or stretch out with our chiropractor. Here, at the Nordic Spa & Fitness, we offer a handpicked team of therapists, coaches and specialists waiting to lend a helping hand. So what exactly does the concept of Nordic entail? What immediately comes to mind is wholesomeness, closeness to nature and a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. This forms the foundation of our spa, found in the granite from Grythyttan, Rauk stones from Gotland and the invigorating contrast between the outdoor chill and indoor warmth.

Gym
We believe spas and gyms make perfect partners. So as well as our massages and treatments, we also offer a fully equipped fitness club. As well as all the latest Technogym equipment, the club has wonderful panoramic waterfront views of the city and the Royal Palace. There’s also a private studio for yoga, stretch and other activities, including personal training, and healthy food and refreshments for body and soul at the refreshment bar. The gym is available for hotel guests and members in the Members club.
