Attractive routes in a unique, alpine landscape – you can expect running spectacle in a class of its own! There are twelve exciting competitions to choose out of the disciplines trailrunning, running and hiking. The ultimate Irontrail T88 is considered as the supreme race par excellence. Compete with world class athletes or simply enjoy running and the beautiful landscapes. Enjoy the overwhelming atmosphere that only exists on the Swissalpine Irontrail.
The traditional horse jumping event in Zuoz takes place for the 50th time this year. What used to be a small and regional jumping competition between trained soldiers called dragoons is now one of the biggest tournaments of its class in the canton Grison. Amazons and riders from all over Switzerland and abroad will meet on the weekend from August 8th-11th and offer equestrian sport at the highest level. In addition to the exciting program for the whole family, the anniversary will be celebrated with a special performance on August 7th.
Sailing Club of the Year will then be decided at the grand finale in St. Moritz from August 30 to September 2, 2018 between the best 15 teams of the first two rounds. Also present will be St. Moritz Sailing Club as host, and last year´s winner the Costa Smeralda Yacht Club.
In Pontresina, with its 580 km-long hiking trail network, the hiking options are almost limitless. Highlights include a hike through the wild-romantic Val Roseg or a walk from Muottas Muragl to the Languard Alp, passing through the territory of the largest Ibex colony in Switzerland. You can see even more ibex on a hike in the Swiss National Park nearby. And guests staying for two nights or more at the Grand Hotel Kronenhof benefit from free travel on all mountain railways operating within the Engadin St. Moritz holiday resort.
With over 400 km of single trails and special flow trails, the Engadine presents exciting new possibilities for holiday activities. From dizzying ascents to magnificent lookouts, adventurous pass crossings and challenging single trails as well as easy and relaxing tours through side valleys with wide paths. There’s something just waiting to be explored for the entire family as well as the enthusiast. Our recommendation: a trip to the neighbouring Puschlav. If you don’t want to ride there, simply take the Rhaetian Railway as a shuttle up to the Bernina Pass – and look forward to the next downhill ride!
Pontresina, with its majestic Bernina massif, has a place on each mountain climber’s bucket list. As soon as the winter is over, the summer tour season begins, and the high Alpine conditions accompany alpinists until October. Once equipped with an ice pick and crampons, the mountaineer can begin an adventure in crossing a glacier, climbing across the Bianco Ridge to the Piz Bernina in a roped party with an experienced mountain guide or taking a more individual approach on a climbing route. If you prefer something a little less demanding, try one of the three via ferrate or overcome obstacles on the Pontresina high-rope course.
Goats are among the oldest pets in the world. Starting this summer, guests of Grand Hotel Kronenhof are able to book trekking tours with these friendly animals. Why not hike through the beautiful Upper Engadine nature, enjoy the company of the goats and maybe even treat yourself to a picnic? Fun for the whole family!
All the sunshine in the Engadine warms up the mountain lakes to over 20°C – perfect for cooling off after a cycling or hiking tour. As well as making for great bathing, the three scenic St. Moritz lakes Lej da Staz, Lej Nair, and Lej Marsch are wonderful spots for simply relaxing, picnicking or having a barbecue at one of the barbecue areas.
Kiting, surfing and sailing. The frisky Maloja wind that plays over the beautiful Lake Silvaplana at an altitude of 1,800 meters, makes for the great wind and kite surfing scene here. Sailing enthusiasts, on the other hand, swear by Lake St. Moritz. And if the wind fails, you can row or do the rounds on the stand-up paddle board.
In summer, the Engadine becomes a golfer‘s paradise and the Kulm Hotel lets those eager to play get a head start. The two 18-hole golf courses of Samedan and Zuoz and the 9-hole Kulm golf course offer an enjoyable round and a sporting challenge.
Fly like a bird through the sky! Since the beginning of time, this has been a dream for many. Even without prior experience, you can make this dream come true together with a professional tandem pilot. Starting position, time of flight as well as duration and location are decided by the passenger and the pilot.
A carriage ride is a romantic experience not to be missed during your stay in the Engadine. Our insider tip: take a ride on the restored Grand Hotel Kronenhof coach and choose one of these three beautiful destinations: Val Roseg, Lej da Staz or the Morteratsch Glacier. Benefit from our special rate of CHF 280, which includes a round trip for a maximum of five passengers including two hours waiting time at the destination. Each additional waiting hour costs CHF 50.
Feel the sun on your face and the powdery snow under your skis all day long: on 350 kilometres of slopes. Corviglia, the “backyard mountain” of St. Moritz, along with the Corvatsch and Diavolezza ski resorts, all offer you an exceptional skiing experience. In fact it’s easy to imagine yourself as a world champion on these slopes! In addition, the numerous restaurants, ski huts and snow bars serve everything from light meals to fine dining and plenty of après ski fun. From your first night, receive a ski pass for CHF 45.
The Swiss paradise of silver trails offers spectacular cross-country skiing possibilities in every respect – unique scenery, top track quality, and unsurpassed snow safety. Whether you want to train for the Engadine ski marathon, test your limits on the race tracks or prefer to glide along the illuminated night trails at a later hour, beginners as well as pros will find the right cross-country ski trail for their ability.
Imagine speeding headfirst down the ice track at the break-neck speed of 140 km per hour; your nose only just above the ice. Since the 1884/85 winter season, excited participants have felt the big surge of adrenaline on the legendary Cresta Run. For anyone who tries it, Cresta racing soon becomes an addiction. The adventure, tinged with danger, is what makes racing down the Cresta Run on a fast skeleton bobsled so alluring to enthusiasts.
Engadin St. Moritz offers a variety of long and short toboggan runs. The classic is the 4.2 km run at Muottas Muragl. Another highlight is the most famous snow roller coaster in Preda-Begrün – only a 20-minute train ride from Pontresina.
Explore snow-covered forests, idyllic lookouts or walk across frozen lakes with snowshoes on your feet – Pontresina offers many snowshoe routes far from the crowds. Our tip: a snowshoe tour under the full moon.
