ACTIVITIES:
This Renzo Piano-designed museum, in Riehen, showcases works from Monet and Cézanne to Warhol and Francis Bacon.
From the top of the Münster cathedral—also called the Pfalz—you get a sweeping view of the city, the Rhine River and Klein Basel.
The city’s opera and ballet companies are excellent, staging both classic and contemporary works.
This large park with a botanical garden and lake has plenty of kid-friendly attractions, including interesting flora and fauna, a playground and a giant dinosaur statue.
At this exceptional shop, you’ll find everything from decorative objets to watches and toys—all Swiss-made.
Inside the inner city’s 19th-century train station, there are art and design ateliers, great shops and restaurants, and even a spa.
The Vitra Campus in nearby Weil am Rhein is a must-see for its fascinating design museum and structures by starchitects, including Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron and SANAA.
This attractive coffee bar and restaurant, located in a former chapel in the Elizabethan Park, is the perfect place to sip a latte.

A flamboyantly grand yet intimate grande dame with huge red-velvet-draped windows looking out to the Rhine. Don’t miss the three-Michelin-starred restaurant serving vivacious Mediterranean-international cuisine, and drinks in the bar while a pianist with a penchant for tweed plays Handel and Bach. Right on the river, with views of industrial ships belching across the water, and sounds of saxophonists performing on the bridge. It’s in the centre of town, four minutes’ walk from the Rathaus, eight minutes on foot to Basel Minster and five minutes to the Museum der Kulturen and the Natural History Museum.
It’s a boutique city hotel where life revolves around the triple-Michelin-starred restaurant, waterfront terrace and bar. The gym in the basement has large riverside windows offering splendid treadmill views. Service is refined and prompt on reception and refreshingly attentive at breakfast. Some might feel that there is a slight lack of warmth here; service delivered with curt smiles rather than Disney grins. Opt for a river-fronted room; they come with small terraces overlooking the water, and have enough room for a table and couple of chairs. Interiors are flamboyant: think scarlet Baroque-patterned wallpaper and bundles of fresh roses.
101 rooms and suites are at the disposal of our guests. They combine history with the latest comfort. From the junior rooms through to the luxurious Suite Les Trois Rois in the art deco style: you will be completely comfortable in any one of our elegantly furnished guest rooms. Our employees, with their dedicated service, will ensure that you always feel at home.

The exclusive atmosphere is palpable throughout the suite – through to the outdoor jacuzzi on the roof terrace, which offers fresh perspectives with its panorama view over the city and the Rhine.

Napoleon Suite
Napoléon Bonaparte never actually spent a night here – but this luxuriously appointed, lime-green suite with a view over the Rhine is reminiscent of the state banquet held in his honour at the old inn in 1797. The ceiling panel with its cloudy sky and the charming frescoes and stucco work transport you back to the Napoleonic era: It is in the corner salon in particular, with its painted medallions and gold-plated ornamentation, that you will be transported back in time.

Discreet luxury awaits you in our eleven spacious junior suites – blue and red silk wall coverings and the spacious arrangement create a pleasant, peaceful atmosphere. Let your gaze sweep over the Rhine and the historic centre of Kleinbasel on the other side of the river and simply enjoy the fact that you are here (approx. 45 m²).
