ACTIVITIES:

Monte Bar

Located north of Lugano, Monte Bar lies on the range west of the Gazzirola, between the Val d’Isone and the Val Colla. The summit culminates at 1’814m and will give you staggering views of the region. The trek takes roughly around 3.5 to 4 hours to reach the top and the difficulty is medium.

San Salvatore – Morcote

The peak of Monte San Salvatore is at 912m and overlooks Lugano and the lake. Easily reachable in about one hour trek or by funicular you have then a wonderful walk all the way to Morcote which was recently elected prettiest village in Switzerland. Count on 4 hours walk from the top of San Salvatore to Morcote. The difficulty is medium.

Tamaro – Lema

High up in the skies lays Monte Tamaro at 1’962m. From there starts the trek to another peak Monte Lema. During the whole excursion you will find yourself in some of incredibly suggestive scenarios, including famous peaks and panoramic views of Lake Maggiore. The path is challenging and takes more than 5 hours, accompanied by a highly regarded mountain guide.

An adventurous day out

Plenty awaits you at Monte Tamaro Park so we suggest enjoying a hearty breakfast full of vitamins at the hotel before setting off for a brilliant day out with your family. Monte Tamaro offers so much for a day out which include an exciting downhill bobsleigh and for those seeking an adrenaline rush enjoy the ride of your life on the 400 metre downhill zip line. You can also try your hand at paragliding and for the truly adventurous, brave the spectacular Tamaro jump! If all that wasn’t enough, the mountain has some fantastic bike and hiking trails too. If you prefer to take life at a slightly slower place there are some easy to moderate walking paths suitable for all ages and the serious hikers will love the more challenging routes of Lema-Tamaro and Rivera-Alpe Foppa which offer scenery that is simply out of this world. Even if you prefer a relaxing time altogether, it’s worth heading up Mount Tamaro for the fresh mountain air and views alone. On a warm sunny day, you can enjoy the terrace and sun loungers, a peaceful haven while the kids are at play.

Ride & Hike to the top

If you love culture then Monte San Salvatore is a must visit. Its fame extends far and wide. Pilgrims would make their way to the summit in order to pay homage to Christ who, according to ancient legend, stopped there briefly during his ascension to Heaven. Nowadays the mountain draws its many visitors because of what is arguably one of the best views in Switzerland.

A tour of Switzerland in one hour

Ever wondered what it would be like to see the whole of one country in just an hour? Pay a visit to Swissminiatur. Swiss pioneer Pierre Vuigner had a dream to create not just a miniature village but the whole of Switzerland scaled down to size. Swissminiatur opened its doors to the public in 1959 and has been fascinating visitors from across the globe ever since. Set in a beautiful park surrounded by mountains like Monte Generoso, Monte San Salvatore and Monte San Giorgio, one can marvel at more than 120 models which reproduce the most important buildings throughout Switzerland.

Goods smuggling across the lake

Wake up to the sun streaming into your luxury room and take a moment to enjoy a morning buffet breakfast with your family, before leaving for a fascinating place not too far away from the hotel. What makes this excursion so special is that you can begin and end this journey by boat, which will no doubt keep the children entertained. Lake Lugano is perhaps not the most conventional place for a museum but what was once a Swiss border guard post is now home to a place of interest for visitors interested in gaining a glimpse into the roles of border guards and customs agents in Switzerland and learning all about goods smuggling, drug searches, economic crime, migration, precious metal control, the protection of cultural property and species protection. Opened as a museum in 1949, you can view artefacts from 1848, when the Swiss Confederation was founded, right up to the present day.

Romantic Dinner in Morcote by boat

Are you looking for something romantic and atmospheric? If you are a lover of pure lakes and places rich in historical charm, then perhaps try dinner at Morcote. For a change in perspective, don’t take the car and instead cruise there by boat. From a lakeshore viewpoint, everything will be even more fascinating: from the villages perched on the green mountains to the reflection of the sun on the lake at sunset… When you arrive, give yourself some time to discover this ancient Ticino fishing village. Morcote has retained the charm of its past and it feels like time has stopped here. Later, overlooking Lake Lugano, enjoy your choice of gastronomic experience – perhaps freshwater fish – at one of Morcote’s panoramic restaurants.
