Situated in the Western Corridor of the renowned Serengeti National Park, wildlife viewing at andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti National Park is truly exceptional throughout the year. The camp’s location on a tributary of the Grumeti River means that it is ideally positioned for sightings of dramatic river crossings when the famous Great Wildebeest Migration is in the area. However, the wildlife experience can be even more spectacular when the Migration is not nearby, with a staggering density of year-round wildlife and relatively few tourists encountered in this part of the reserve. While the camp itself is sheltered in the riverside thickets and provides beautiful views of a river bend inhabited by hippo, game drives venture out into the wide open plains, where guests can enjoy the quintessential Serengeti landscapes in open 4×4 safari vehicles with canvas canopies.

This full-day trip to the shores of Lake Victoria promises a combination of wildlife adventures, sightseeing, fishing thrills and cultural insight. A morning game drives through the Serengeti takes guests to the park gate. From here, it is a 20-minute drive to the lake shore, with the option to stop and learn about the work of the &Beyond Foundation at Lukungu Primary School. On arrival at Lake Victoria, guests can choose to set off on a fishing safari excursion in a traditional canoe, pay a visit to the traditional doctor, clap along to the rhythm as the villagers perform a local dance or simply admire the magnificent landscapes. A picnic lunch is served on the lake shore before guests set off on their return journey.

Inspired by Tanzania’s annual Great Migration, andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is situated near one of the most famous fording points used by the wildebeest as the cross the Grumeti River in an area that is home to exceptional year-round resident wildlife. Rustic yet sophisticated, the intimate tents combine hues of natural grey with accents of natural stone and bone. All ten of the tented suites look out onto the Grumeti River and its resident pods of hippo, while sliding doors open out onto shaded private decks. Stone shower towers are open to the sun and stars. Two of the tents have been designed to cater for families travelling together and share and an enclosed entrance lobby that can allows easy access between the tents while maintaining complete privacy. A dramatic boma is the setting for open-air dinners with delicious food prepared in traditional stone ovens. A rim-flow swimming pool looks out onto the banks of the river.
Accommodation is in 10 flamboyant tents tucked under shady palm thatched roofs. Each of the spacious tents has a furnished deck and ensuite bathroom with hand basin, separate shower open to the stars and separate w.c. There is an overhead fan and the local sculptured furnishings and vibrant decor bring alive the excitement and romance of Africa.
Safari Tent
Rustic yet sophisticated, the intimate safari tents blend perfectly into their environment with their cool grey colour scheme and bleached cypress construction. Elegant yet whimsical, the interiors provide quirky touches and tongue-in-cheek surprises that emphasise the natural beauty of the African setting. All ten of the tented suites look out onto the Grumeti River and its resident pods of hippo, while sliding doors open out onto shaded private decks. Discrete butler’s hatches add to the aura of intimate exclusivity. Stone shower towers are open to the sun and stars, while the grunts of hippo provide a nightly serenade. Local sculptured furnishings and lively décor bring alive the excitement and romance of Africa.
Family Tent
andBeyond Grumeti has a family tent that can accommodate up to two adults and three children. The suite consists of two luxury tents that are connected by an enclosed walkway made of wood and canvas.
With an emphasis on wholesome and healthy fare, meals feature a variety of freshly-prepared delights, like fresh-fruit platters and piping hot waffles. From the ‘wake-up’ coffee service and pre-game drive breakfast buffet to exciting picnics out in the wild or light lunches on the terrace, every mealtime is a treat. Delicious African-inspired dinners are often cooked over an open fire or in special safari ovens, served alfresco below the stars or in the intimate boma area.

A vibrant and playful décor theme runs through the lodge, where a large central building houses the lounge, dining and bar areas. Thatch, wood and stone are artfully blended to create a seamless transition from the outdoor wilderness to the comfortable interiors. The colourful and inviting lounge flows out onto a viewing deck overlooking the water where playful hippos frolic. The Safari Shop is located at the entrance of the camp.The guest areas of this intimate camp include open-fronted sitting and dining areas, a lounge area and domed bar. The interior design is colourful and funky with unusual beaded artefacts. The spacious decks are perfect for sundowners overlooking the river.
