ACTIVITIES:
Guided game drives are offered twice a day from Jabali Ridge. Our six-seater game-viewing vehicles are open-sided with a canvas roof; canvas sides can be rolled down in case of rain (rain ponchos are provided). All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your device, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks deliciously frosty. A private game-viewing vehicle can be booked by prior arrangement. In the morning, maximise your game-viewing time by taking a delicious breakfast picnic with you to enjoy under the shade of a baobab tree. In the evening, sip a cold gin & tonic in the heart of the bush as the sun sinks below the horizon.
A walking safari is one the most intimate ways to experience the bush and can be enjoyed from Jabali Ridge in the company of an experienced armed guide and local tracker. Eye-to-eye with the wildlife, your senses are heightened and the sights, sounds, and smells of the bush come alive.
When the sun descends, the elusive night animals come out to play. Explore the secrets of these shy creatures on a night game drive from Jabali Ridge.
Take to the skies and soar in a hot air balloon over Ruaha National Park at sunrise one morning. This is a really spectacular way to start the day and see the park from an entirely different perspective. You will be picked up in the early hours before sunrise, transferred to the balloon launch site and have a safety briefing, before taking flight and travelling low along the Great Ruaha River.

A luxurious safari lodge perched on a rocky outcrop located in southern Tanzania’s Ruaha National Park, Jabali Ridge is a prime game viewing place where herds of buffaloes, lion prides, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and giraffes roam. Set high on a rocky kopje overlooking a landscape dotted with spiky palms and bulbous baobabs, Jabali Ridge is a sophisticated base from which to explore Ruaha National Park. The remarkable beauty of Ruaha is not only in the landscape and its diversity of flora and fauna, or the impressive big game, but in the feeling of having the wilderness all to yourself. With only a handful of visitors at any one time in an area the size of New Jersey, this is an exceptional safari experience. Jabali Ridge’s 8 suites and 1 private lodge are hidden amongst the rocky boulders that cocoon the property. An infinity pool, spa and plenty of places to laze ensure that time off is as memorable as time out in the bush. Expert guides lead walking safaris, game drives and night drives.
Ruaha is a wild and unspoilt park in southern Tanzania, with a wide range of wildlife to seek out on your safari. There are good numbers of big cats here, with regular sightings of lion prides, leopard and cheetah, as well as large herds of elephant and buffalo, and more unusual species such as roan antelope and sable. The guides at Jabali Ridge are some of Tanzania’s finest, ensuring you maximise your experience here and see as much wildlife as possible. Safari activities include game-drives and night-drives in open-sided vehicles, and guided walking safaris which offer an entirely different perspective.
Jabali’s rooms are elegantly natural, with ‘walls’ of louvred wood shutters that open fully to reveal the expansive terrace and vistas beyond. Inside, the king-sized bed frames are made from railway sidings and draped in grey and mauve linens with a calico mosquito net around the bed. The stylish en suite has grey stone sinks, a separate shower area and dressing space, while the kitchenette has tea and coffee facilities and a fridge. Outdoors, the wooden terrace is on two levels, with a hammock and huge cushioned sofas, again in shades of grey. Close to the lodge, a private villa of a similar design sleeps six, and has its own pool, guide and chef. Check into Room 1 for the best sunrise.

Guest Room
With views over Ruaha from every corner of the room, the guest suites are designed to maximise the stunning landscape beyond. Be it from the bed, the desk, or the bathroom, every space is a viewpoint and open to nature. Louvred shutters can be opened completely, blurring the lines between indoor and out, or closed for privacy. King-sized beds are the perfect place for an afternoon siesta, or head out onto your private deck and take in the view. Bathrooms are fully equipped with rain showers and flushing toilets.
Dining at Jabali is a delight. In the mornings, everything from full cooked breakfast to cheeses and fruit is available. Lunch menus include turkey or vegetable skewers, homemade burgers and fresh and flavoursome salads. Three-course dinners are light and elegant: try the grilled halloumi followed by subtly spiced butternut squash curry or T-bone steak, then a delicious coconut ice cream. Wines come from South Africa and the cool gin bar serves spirits from around the world. On game drives, bush breakfasts, picnic lunches and sundowners are provided, while at the lodge, barbecues are cooked around the campfire. Or dine by candlelight beside the pool – just keep an eye out for the resident leopard who likes to drink the water.
