ACTIVITIES:

Journey to the Temple of Dawn

Cruise along the Chao Phraya River in a beautifully restored Peninsula Rice Barge and catch a glimpse of riverside life in Bangkok. Visit nearby historical sites, ancient temples and vibrant riverside restaurants. Upriver sightseeing packages are also available for individual guests or groups.

Muay Thai boxing

Muay Thai boxing originated as a martial art. Under the reign of Thailand’s King Rama V (late 1880′s), it became an exercise and recreational activity. Today, Muay Thai boxing has evolved into a sport where boxers use gloves and other gear to protect themselves from their opponents’ punches, kicks and elbows. Muay Thai is similar to American boxing in that boxers win by the judge’s decision or by knockout.

A Coastal Mangrove Eco-Adventure

Discover one of the most productive and biologically complex ecosystems on Earth. Whether it is a nursery ground for fish, a food source for monkeys, deers and tree-climbing crabs, or a nectar source for bats and honeybees, it is all here. Be whisked from the hotel to Thailand’s first urban Nature Education Centre, Bang Pu, in true Peninsula style before entering another world of riotous nature and vital ecosystems. Guided by award-winning naturalists, we will both show you the beauty and invite you to help make a difference yourself by planting some tender new mangrove saplings. Meanwhile, you will be introduced to the bird, plant and insect population in addition to gaining insight into all the varieties of forest with which Thailand is covered. You will emerge not only invigorated by the fresh sea air but with a deeper appreciation of the importance of conservation and a holistic sense of being a part of nature with a vested interest in seeing its beauty and diversity nurtured and conserved in perpetuity.

Handcrafted Thai Art

Folding paper or bamboo leaves into fish shapes is a traditional Thai folk art dating back to the days when children enjoyed more simple leisure pursuits. The Peninsula Bangkok is reviving this timeless pastime for family guests. In partnership with Bangkok and London-based Thai visual artist Jirayu Koo, the hotel has created a unique Thai Kinetic Art master class as the newest addition of its Family Academy programme. With a passion for simple, unfussy geometric shapes and graphic elements, Thai artist Jirayu has created her own vivid style, which she brings to life for families at The Peninsula Bangkok. Jirayu guides guests of all ages to craft, fold and bend classic shapes and motifs using gold-tinted Thai paper, which is similar to Mulberry paper. Gold has historically been a significant colour in Thai lacquer art, and is elegantly adapted to Jirayu’s Kinetic Art style.

Elephant Ride in Hua Hin Hills Vineyard

Discover one of the hidden gems of Thailand; the only vineyard in the world where fine wine meets adventure. Formerly a corral where Asian elephants were domesticated, this vineyard is now home to both the majestic land mammals and the first vines, planted in December 2004. Spreading over 560 acres or a thousand “rai” in Thai, the terrain of sand and slate and constant ocean breeze allows international grape varietals to thrive and produce aromatic and award-winning Monsoon Valley wines. Explore the breathtaking valley with an exhilarating elephant ride, immerse in this pristine environment and savour the unique opportunity to interact firsthand with the elephants.
