ACTIVITIES:
Now home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, a visit to the castle should also take in the marina and adjacent narrow lanes that are the hub of contemporary city life.
Using distinctive red clay, artisans in the village of Mumcular offer an opportunity to watch the creation process and invite you to try it for yourself.
Protected by a headland, the calm bay is ideal for sailing, snorkelling or canoeing, as well as venturing farther afield on a motor yacht or traditional gulet (sailing boat).
Visit the fishing village of Gümüşlük for daytime dives that explore the sunken ancient city of Myndos and hikes at dusk capture the sunset between the gentle sloping coves.

Amanruya is a tranquil resort situated on the northern coast of the Bodrum Peninsula in the beautiful Mandalya Bay. Named after the Sanskrit-derived word for peace, ‘aman’, and the Turkish word for dream, ‘ruya’, the property is surrounded by ancient olive groves and the hills behind are cloaked in Mediterranean pine forest. The resort is inspired by the region’s traditional architecture and building methods combining Mediterranean and Ottoman design elements. A series of courtyards and terraces on the hillside gives a village feel while still retaining a sense of space. The resort is surrounded by a pine forest and an ancient olive grove.
The 35 pool Pavilions each have a private garden and pool and are large luxurious spaces featuring a bedroom, living room and an open bathroom area. Styled with local stone, dark acajou wood furniture and white Turkish marble floors, the pavilions offer cool accommodation during the heat of the summer months. During the winter, the living room includes an open fire transforming the pavilion into a warm, cosy space.
500 metres from the resort down a winding path guests can enjoy the private Beach Club. The Club consists of a series of terraces on which sun loungers overlook the small pebble beach, a jetty and an offshore swimming pontoon. The resort offers a 50 metre swimming pool, tennis court, library, boutique and art gallery. Two spa suites offer an array of relaxing treatments.
Amanruya offers 35 spacious and elegant Pool Suites and Pavilions, each with a private garden and pool. Combining Mediterranean and Turkish architectural details, Amanruya’s stone Pavilions all open onto picturesque gardens with private swimming pools and open views. There are 22 heated pools and 13 pools are kept at the ambient temperature. The rooms come with a choice of garden, partial sea and deluxe sea view.

The eclectic cuisine of the Mediterranean is the focus at Amanruya’s kitchen, whether dining in the intimate Dining Pavilion, under the vaulted ceilings of the Wine Cellar, or in any of the pavilions and lounges where meals can be served. Locally grown, organic Bodrum produce is emphasised, with seafood straight from the Aegean and a range of olive oils from the nearby villages.
