In a city that straddles Europe and Asia, discover an enchanting retreat that draws on influences of East and West in Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul. Anchored on the European shores of the Bosphorus strait in a historical building from the 1930’s, the hotel sits in the Beşiktaş district and is only a 15 minute walk from the iconic Dolmabahçe Palace. Guests will find solace in chandelier-accented rooms and suites accentuated by soothing cool tones, inspired by palatial Ottoman glamour and Asian design elements.
Inspired by Shangri-La’s Asian roots and the beauty of the Bosphorus, the 186 contemporary rooms and suites are accentuated by cool tones with plush fabrics and look out onto either the hotel’s inner atrium, the city or the strait. The marble-clad bathrooms feature heated floors and a television embedded in the mirror. IST TOO features Asian and Mediterranean specialties in a stylish atmosphere with views of the Bosphorus Strait. Shang Palace serves authentic Cantonese cuisine in an elegant setting. Lobby Lounge offers light bites and afternoon tea. Enjoy a classic cocktail with international snacks at Le Bar. Swim in the heated pool at CHI, The Spa at Shangri-la, or relax in the hammam. The spa offers a full menu of treatments inspired by traditional Asian healing philosophies such as the signature CHI Balance massage with acupressure techniques.
The hardest part about staying here is deciding which one of the 186 rooms to choose, as they vary so much in both aspect and price, reflected in the fact that there are 11 different room categories. The majority of the 17 suite rooms have their own private terrace, with the most expensive on the corners of the hotel with panoramic views of the waterfront, Bosphorus and Asia. By contrast, the rooms on the rear, street side of the hotel overlook the car park, the busy coastal road and beyond to the heavily-built up hills of Beşiktaş and surrounding suburbs – though those on the fifth floor benefit from a large private terrace. The cheapest rooms, ranged around the atrium running the height of the building, lack the same natural light as exterior facing rooms. Each room has a well-equipped office desk complete with everything from old-school paper clips to USB charger sockets, and on the bedside table is a copy of James Hilton’s ‘Lost Horizon’ novel, supposedly the inspiration for the Shangri-La chain’s name.

Barbaros Suite
Barbaros Suites serve as a refined luxury abode for the discerning traveller. Each suite includes full living and dining areas, and two large terraces – one facing the city and the other looking out to the inspiring Bosphorus Strait. Oriental artwork adorns these speciality suites.
Shangri La Suite
Occupying nearly half of the upper floor, the Shangri-La Suite is the epitome of uncompromising luxury. It features expansive interiors, elegantly furnished in fine detail. The Shangri-La Suite is our only suite to offer two bedrooms, with separate dining and living rooms. Each bedroom as well as the living room has a private terrace with stunning views of the Bosphorus Strait. All seven silhouettes of Istanbul are visible from the Shangri-La Suite.
The hotel has two restaurants. On the ground floor, with a wide terrace overlooking a public Bosphorus-front promenade, is the IST TOO, serving a wide-range of Turkish and international dishes. It’s a cavernous yet stylish place to tuck into mouth-watering kebabs, manti (yogurt-smothered Turkish ravioli) and other delicacies, along with a range of pizzas, pastas and fish dishes. The wines, prominently displayed as part of the décor, are sourced both domestically (Turkey is the third largest producer of grapes in the world) and from Europe and New Zealand. A vast buffet breakfast is served here too, with every kind of Turkish, western and oriental dishes on offer – though it’s quite a trek between food counters to sample the full range. The Shang Palace, situated on the lower lobby floor, is the hotel’s signature restaurant, serving up a sumptuous range of Chinese dishes – far better than anything else of this kind in Istanbul.
Ist Too
IST TOO sources the finest Turkish produce and transforms it into Asian and Mediterranean delicacies. A stylish atmosphere, with fantastic views of the Bosphorus Strait, complements the restaurant’s creative menu. IST TOO’s noodle puller further enhances the dining experience, Japanese sushi bar and grill station.
Shang Palace
Serving authentic Chinese-Cantonese cuisine, Shang Palace is the hotel’s signature restaurant, with a Chinese executive chef and nine other chefs from China paying the closest attention to every last detail. Shang Palace is the hotel’s signature restaurant and Shangri-La’s culinary introduction to the city of Istanbul.
Lobby Lounge
The grand and elegant Lobby Lounge is a pleasant place to meet for drinks or light refreshments, both for business and for leisure. A tea room, styled with feminine touches, serves premium tea blends. Delightful savouries and pastries are also available.
Le Bar
Exuding contemporary urban elegance, Le Bar offers international cuisine alongside classic cocktails and spirits. Relax with friends, while indulging in our range of appetizers and mezzes.
The basement pool is particularly good, with a depth of 1.5m throughout and plenty long enough for a decent swim. It’s very soothingly decorated with an eye-catching trompe l’oeil sky ceiling and very comfy loungers for a post-swim mellow or to keep an eye on the kids in the adjacent children’s pool. The CHI spa is equally enticing, with its grey marble heated slabs and Iznik tile décor.
