The Abu Dhabi Edition is situated in the downtown district on the waterfront of Al Bateen Marina. The hotel features 198 guest rooms and 57 exclusively serviced residences. Unique food and beverage outlets include 3 signature restaurants, lobby bar, pool bar and 3-story social space. Two pools, two state-of-the-art fitness centres and spa with 7 treatment rooms are also available for hotel guests. The hotel also has over 900 square metres of meeting and event space including several meeting studios, ballrooms and a boardroom. Michelin-starred Chef Tom Aikens conveys his culinary ethos of making the most of local ingredients to ensure the highest quality dishes. His all day dining concept at Market focuses on imaginative, no waste, healthy lifestyle options in an open kitchen setting.
The Abu Dhabi Edition’s 198 guest rooms are designed using a sophisticated neutral palette. The grey oak timber flooring’s herringbone pattern, drawing inspiration from local basket weaving techniques, contrasts the off-white marble in the bathrooms. The windows are dressed in elegant off-white drapery and the walls feature beautiful wood paneling, adorned with photography by Brett Weston, who displays masterful skill at manipulating photos of sand dunes to create sinuous lines and sensuous forms which reference Abu Dhabi’s surrounding environment while remaining true to Edition’s sophisticated aesthetic.
Of the 198 rooms and 57 residences, I’m in a Deluxe Queen room (the standard) which offers marina views and has a terrace and sizeable bathroom with tub and separate shower and loo. I’m surprised there’s only one sink considering the size of the bench space but am impressed by the shower and the extra fluffy towels and robes. There’s a coffee machine and Bang & Olufsen speaker system too, while the sand dune photographs on the walls give the space a local touch and the timber floors, beige colour palette and sand-coloured daybed combine well to provide a more minimalistic boutique feel. Rooms differ mainly in size and views offered (eg front views, back views and front side views etc). There’s also a two-bedroom Royal Penthouse which boasts a spectacular terrace.

With Tom Aikens in charge of the food, expectations are high. There are three main eateries here alongside the Lobby Lounge and Library Bar – lovely spots for a drink or game of billiards pre- or post-dinner. Market at Edition is the health-focused all-day dining establishment. Breakfast here is an á la carte affair – you can choose from poached eggs and crushed avocado on rye to bakery baskets (all bread is made in-house), French toast and bircher mueslis. Alba Terrace is the Mediterranean-style eatery. The setting is intimate yet comfortable and the Friday brunch worth a try – alcohol packages begin at AED 450 (£97). The Oak Room rounds out the menu and is most notable for its meat case and crafted cocktails. The vibe is very British and specialty steaks range from AED 100 (£22) to AED 790 (£170), with cocktails from AED 60 (£13).
