Punting In Oxford

Nothing says Oxbridge more than the image of cruising down the river in a punt. It’s not surprising that punting in Oxford has been a favourite past time since before the 1880s. Without doubt, it’s one of the most relaxing ways to spend an afternoon in Oxford. The experience is enhanced greatly with the addition of a small picnic, containing a punnet of Strawberries and a cheeky bottle of bubbly! For the unwary however, punting in Oxford can be a bit of a debacle. The Trill Mill Stream was dredged in 1930 and a Victorian punt with three skeletons on board! If this has put you off the idea of taking a punt around Oxford, then don’t worry. We at Footprints Tours have created this handy little article will give you everything you need to know about punting so that you can avoid ending up like these unfortunate tourists.

Pop To The Palace

Around 40 minutes’ drive from Farncombe, Blenheim Palace, makes for a great day out whether you’re interested in architecture, art, or history. The 2,000 acres of gardens feature water terraces, a succession of formal and pleasure gardens, a butterfly house and the famous Malborough Hedge Maze.

Browse The Boutiques

Shopaholic or not, Bicester Village is a treat. Some of the biggest designer names have outlet boutiques lining the boulevards of Bicester, meaning you can pick up pieces from brands such as Vivienne Westwood Gucci, Prada, Ralph Lauren, Mulberry and more – all for a fraction of the usual price.

Motor On

The Cotswold Motoring Museum in Bourton-on-the-Water is a great day out for petrolheads of every age, with a huge collection of vintage and classic cars, motorbikes from throughout the 20th century. It’s also the retirement home of 1990s kids’ TV star Brum.

Ride The Rails

There is no better way to explore the countryside than riding the steam and heritage diesel trains of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, which powers along a 26-mile loop of track starting at Toddington, taking in the hills and hamlets of the North Cotswolds en route.

Gin Tour

Gin is definitely the drink of the moment and we’re rather partial to the botanical blends of our local Cotswolds Distillery, not far from the Estate in Stourton. They run regular, pre-booked tours that introduce you to their distilling methods, topped off with a tasting session.

Row On The River Avon

Foxhill Manor

This rural residence may be grand and the estate 400-acres strong, but Foxhill Manor is the definition of a boutique hotel. Thoughtful treats pop up throughout the day. Your personal host is on hand to make your whole stay a breeze. While a sense of laid-back luxury runs through everything. Its charm lies in its home-from-home appeal – if home happens to be a golden-stone, Grade II listed manor. Settle in by exploring the woodland domain Foxhill Manor’s part of: the Farncombe Estate. Soak up the views or seize a racquet for a game of tennis. Then discover what’s indoors. The bedrooms are brimming with character, whether it’s a roll-top tub (or two), or a pillow-stuffed window seat.

The ‘whatever you fancy, whenever you fancy’ motto invites you to help yourself to cake and cocktails in the elegant Drawing Room, and snacks from the Pantry. Ask the chef to cook a favourite dish or prepare you a bespoke tasting menu to suit your own tastes. It’s easy to while away an entire weekend doing very little at Foxhill Manor. But try to venture beyond the front door. The gentle green hills of the Cotswolds ripple outwards and staff can point you towards lovely walking routes. Or they can set you up with archery right through to quad biking experiences. Postcard-worthy Broadway is a saunter away. Plus you have access to the luxury spa at Dormy House.

Each bedroom and suite at Foxhill Manor is individually designed, unique and comes with all the best bits you would expect of a five star venue, so pick whichever one takes your fancy.

Foxhill Manor Willow

Willow

With all the cosiness of a contemporary country cottage, Willow is a dual aspect first floor room with ornamental floral wallpaper and a traditional wrought iron king size bed. The bathroom, metro-tiled in muted grey, has a walk-in shower big enough for two, and a garden view roll top tub set in front of the window.

Foxhill Manor Maple

Maple

One for the rockstars, this. Maple is a cosy crow’s nest of a room, set at the very top of the Manor. The king size bed is curtained off from the rest of the room, giving you the impression of sleeping in a (unusually comfortable) Bedouin tent. Opposite the bed, a big red curved sofa and beanbag help create the perfect ‘afterparty’ atmosphere, and the mid-century marquetry desk makes the most of Maple’s sweeping second floor views.

Foxhill Manor Birch

Birch

Set at the heart of the Manor on the first floor, Birch may well have the most jaw-dropping views in the house. Its windows look out over the Vale of Evesham, all the way to the Black Mountains of Wales, and its serene blue bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower and a freestanding roll top tub.

Foxhill Manor Juniper

Juniper

A huge ground floor room gently accented in turquoise pastels, Juniper has one of the biggest bathrooms in Foxhill. Reached via a walk through wardrobe, the ensuite features twin sinks separated by a long window seat, a very big walk-in shower and, in the middle, a freestanding roll top tub. Topped with an oversized buttonback headboard, the kingsize bed can be converted to twins. Juniper is the most suitable option for mobility impaired guests.

Foxhill Manor Chestnut

Chestnut

On the southwest wing of the first floor, Chestnut is one of Foxhill’s biggest bedrooms, with triple aspect windows that ensure it’s flooded with light. Accessed through a little hallway (that opens into a bathroom with a freestanding tub and large walk-in shower), it’s dominated by a king size four poster bed set in front of a subtly chic tree-painted panel. As well as a modern chaise longue positioned to make the most of the views, there’s also a dining table with space for four.

Foxhill Manor Beech

Beech

Overlooking the front of the Manor from the first floor, Beech is a minimalist but welcoming classic style suite dressed in calming taupe and mustard yellow. It’s a relaxed, watching-TV-in-bed sort of suite, with a cosy separate lounge area, accessible from both the bedroom and the private entry corridor, (with another TV in case you disagree about programme choices). Plus there’s a big metro-tiled bathroom with a window side claw-foot tub and a large walk-in shower to boot.

Foxhill Manor Hazel

Hazel

Overlooking the back of the Manor from the first floor, Hazel is a minimalist but welcoming classic style suite. It’s a relaxed, watching-TV-in-bed sort of suite, with a cosy separate lounge area, accessible from the private corridor, (with another TV in case you disagree about programme choices), and a big metro tiled bathroom with a claw-foot tub and a large walk-in shower to boot.

Foxhill Manor Oak

Oak

Suites don’t come more romantic than Oak. This is Foxhill’s most in demand option for honeymooners most likely because of the twin set of freestanding bath tubs in prime Cotswold admiring position by the bay window (with a table in between for the Champagne bucket, naturally). Beside them is a contemporary wood framed four poster and behind, a cosy lounge area facing the feature fireplace. Decorated in warm, earthy tones and adorned with nature-inspired artworks.

Choose what you want, where you want it, and when you want it. Say goodbye to stuffy menus and strict dress codes and say hello to food and drink that’s made for enjoying.

Design Your Dinner

All guests are invited to chat to our Chef and design their own dinner based on the freshest, local and seasonal ingredients that we can get our hands on. We work with local farmers and suppliers to make sure we use as much local produce as we can. Depending on your appetite, dinner starts from £40.

Foxhill Manor Laze in the Lounge

Laze In The Lounge

As part of your stay, guests are free to help themselves to our well-stocked drinks station in the Lounge, including soft drinks, a selection of spirits and house Champagne.

Prop Up The Bar

Enjoy a bite to eat or a glass of something in the cosy bar. We have a great range of local beverages to sample.

Pop Down To The Cellar

With great food comes great wine. The Foxhill cellar is yours for the plundering and our hosts are on hand to help you pick the perfect wine to go with your meal. Our selection covers everything from everyday crowd pleasers to splash out, once-in-a-lifetime vintages.

Foxhill Manor The Media Room

The Media Room

Head into the Media Room and enjoy a film or sign into your Netflix account and binge on your favourite boxset. We’ll have the popcorn ready.

Still Feeling Peckish

If throughout the day you’re feeling peckish, pop into the kitchen and chef will rustle you up something to keep you going. Or head to the first floor and take your pick from the pantry which is always packed full of goodies.

Foxhill Manor is the sister hotel of Dormy House. So a stay here gives you exclusive access to its heavenly House Spa. In fact, Foxhill staff will even drive you there when you’re ready to be pampered. Expect fresh smoothies when you arrive. Then it’s simply a question of where to begin: candlelit pool, lavender-infused sauna or outdoor ‘bubble bath’.

Foxhill Manor Spa

Spa

While there’s a time and a place for oneness and wellbeing, House Spa is all about making you feel absolutely fabulous. The House Spa has been winning awards since the day it opened, offering guests an indoor/outdoor blend of soothing therapies, serene pool, terrace hot tub, and Scandi-style thermal suite.

Foxhill Manor Pool

Pool

The 16m indoor infinity pool at the Dormy House Spa is two minutes’ drive away (Foxhill staff can shuttle you over), as is its outdoor hot tub.
