Game Drives at Somalisa Acacia Camp

Activities include game drives (day and night) by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you.The open land cruisers will accommodate six passengers on tiered seating so that views are not blocked and photographic opportunities are enhanced. Each of our vehicles are fitted with permanent canvas roofing to protect you from the varying weather elements, whilst still allowing an optimised up close and personal experience of wildlife.Guests who have booked a private vehicle can request for the roofing to be removed in advance of their safari.

African Bush Camps Somalisa Acacia Dining

Somalisa Acacia comprises of 2 Family Units with inter-leading walkways between the parents and children’s rooms which are both en-suite, as well as 2 standard Sail Tents. Each tent includes gauze sliding doors, a glass wood-burner fireplace for the cold winter nights, and an overhead fan for the hot summer days, as well as en suite bathroom facilities including flush toilets, an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a copper slipper-style bathtub. All the simple but luxurious tents are on slightly raised decks, under the dappled canopy of a grove of Acacias on the western side of Somalisa.

The camp enjoys its own private views of a small water hole, frequented by large herds of big game including buffalo, elephant, kudu, zebra, giraffe and lion. A small splash pool allows you to cool off during the heat of the day. Activities on offer are game drives and walking excursions with the camp’s professional guides. Most of the activities are in the Somalisa private concession but with easy access to other parts of Hwange National Park. On special request Somalisa Acacia can be booked in conjunction with Somalisa Camp to cater for larger groups of up to 20 people. A private guide and tour leader facility is available on special request.

Somalisa Camp consists of seven tents, while Somalisa Acacia has two family tents and two standard tents. All tents are en-suite with flush loos, indoor and outdoor showers with hot running water and beautiful copper bathtubs. Hot water bottles are provided to ward off the chill over the cold winter nights. The tents also have an internal fireplace which are lit during the cooler months.

Somalisa Acacia has recently under gone a complete rebuild and now comprises of 2 Family Units with inter-leading walkways between the parents and children’s rooms which are both en-suite.Each tent includes gauze sliding doors, a glass wood-burner fireplace for the cold winter nights, and in-room fans for the hot summer days, as well as en suite bathroom facilities including flush toilets, an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a copper slipper-style bathtub. All the simple but luxurious tents are on slightly raised decks, under the dappled canopy of a grove of Acacias on the western side of Somalisa.

The communal dining area and bar look out over the plunge pool to the waterhole beyond, allowing for a passing panoply of game and birds while you dine. Expect all the safari classics like a mid-morning coffee break and afternoon sundowners on your twice-daily game drives, plus breakfast, lunch, a light afternoon tea and dinner.

The menu is vary varied: expect anything from Mediterranean dishes and tasty curries to traditional meats and Asian-inspired meals. The afternoon tea comprises a savoury and sweet snack to tide you over until dinner.

Somalisa Acacia has several wooden viewing decks for enjoying the antics of the game down at the nearly waterhole. The lodge has a communal plunge pool and is solar powered (backed up by a generator and charging facilities are available in the lounge area).

Both Somalisa and Somalisa Acacia feature small swimming pools in which to cool off during the heat of the day. At Somalisa they have had to build a second pool for their guests as the first was being emptied quickly over the day as huge numbers of elephant came to drink from it, understandably seeming to prefer the sweet borehole water to that of the muddy waterhole below.
